parmesan cheese ?

i put parmasan cheese on top of the zucchini i just cooked
and just realized it expired october 2008.

I tried taking it off since only put a little on, and it doesnt smell bad, but should I be tossing the zucchini out now? Should I chance eating it?

I would probably eat the zucchini.

Was the cheese opened or unopened? Hard cheeses last about 6 months after the best buy date if unopened and about a month if opened.
