No it doesn't bother me because I LOVE dessert so I get excited for extra cake . I also make my kids cake and spend hours making them.
If it bothers you, how about suggesting pastries or cookies for them to bring instead.

I know it's better that they asked, and I know it's not meant with ill intent..but it's like I always feel stripped of my role, I guess, you know? I can't explain it.
Never in a million years would I ask a mom throwing a celebration if I can bring a cake. It's just so weird to me to even think like that.

Aren't you very PG? Maybe they honestly thought they'd be helping out to pick one up. I'm not that sentimental, so if someone wanted to take over ALL aspects of DS's party, I'd be fine w/ that!

I would have just declined the offer. I get excited about things like their cakes too so I would have probably said that we already had it covered.

It would annoy me only for as long a it took for them to finish the request. Then I'd figure they were stupid as he11 and let them know that thank you but no I got that covered (you stupid moron) haha
Like PP said.. at least they didn't show up with it!

Ummmm yea and I sooo can relate
I was so excited this year to get my mom the Grandma's 1st Christmas ornament from Emmy. SHe was born Christmas Day and was a month early so we never considered it. I was CRUSHED when we went over there and my BROTHER had bought it for her! Emmy is her 1st grandchild and we had it out!!!! He also bought her all her My 1st holiday outfits. The day after we came home he brought them all. I just do not understand why people feel the need to over step that way.

depends on the situation....
my mom asked me if she could get the cake for my twins christening and i was fine with it.
she offered to get the cake for their b-day but i just told her i already had it taken care of.
so it kind of depends

it would bug me. i have relatives who always try to take away some of the fun things about being a mommy and this is on that list. i would just say no thanks and move on though. sometimes people don't think and don't realize, but it's not worth your energy to dwell on it.

Yes it would bug me. And I would tell that person (esp if it has happened more than once) that I appreciate the thought, but brigning a cake is not necessary. If he/she pushes the issue, I would probably get snippy (cuz I'm biitchy like that) and tell them to get their own kid to do stuff for!
