Party Poll...or is it too late??
I want to have a 1st bday party for sidney on July 8th at either my dad's house or at a park. My friends think I'm crazy for doing it at a park cause they think it is so much more work than at a house. I honestly don't think that it would be more work. What do you think...or is it too late since the 8th is not that far away???
If I have it at my dad's house we'll be able to refrigerate stuff and if it rains we could go inside. But then I have to find extra tables and chairs plus the house isn't really child proof and I would also worry about kids breaking stuff.
If we have it at a park then there are already picnic tables and kids can run around freely. But I would have to bring coolers and stuff and if it rained the party would be cancelled.
Thoughts? P.S. We are moving off LI this week so we would be traveling back for the party (this is why I have been so behind the ball planning this party )
TIA

Re: Party Poll...or is it too late??
Hmmm, tough decision....
I'll have a summer baby soon too, and as much as I loved being a summer baby myself, I never thought about the HEAT during my own bdays
As far as the party in general, dont can the idea, your daughter does deserve a party, even if its just ten people! Those that can come will come and it will be just as special as one that was planned a year ahead.
so do have a party...
as far as where.. thats a tough call, as I mentioned, I know in the park, even if it doesnt rain, just being hot and humid is enough for kids especially to get weary and cranky.. is there going to be a sprinkler or anything to keep the kids cool ? do you have elderly coming that cant take the heat too long?
As long as your dads house is roomy enough, borrowing chairs from friends and family is never a problem, and this way theres the option of guests coming in to cool off, even if the kids have a little sprinkler or kiddie pool outside...
as much as I love the outdoors, being mid summer, Id have it at home, just so you have the option and comforts of both the outdoors (kids playing freely and not breaking anything! get a sprinkler or kiddie pool, water guns, etc to keep them happy (Not water balloons, choking hazard), and the adults can also keep cool as parents swap watching the kids and run indoors if need be....
The only way Id have it outside at a park, is if we had lots of help with the grills, transport and storage of food, toilets nearby, SHADED AREAS, beach chairs or picnic tables, and its lots to think about so last minute..
either way, good luck! I hope I didnt babble too much ! happy planning and happy bday!

You make tons of sense. I do have some older people to worry about and I love the kiddie pool and sprinkler idea. Never even crossed my mind. Thanks so much for the ideas.

Re: Party Poll...or is it too late??
We just had Jared's first birthday/DH's 30th at Eisenhower Park and I thought it was great! I didn't have to mess up our house and it was nice for all the guys to go out and play baseball with each other.
Thank God I have a truck to bring all the food to and from the park!

I'm actually having Julia's 1st b-day on July 8th as well, I'm having it at my parents house since they have a pool and a huge backyard. I'm having pony rides and a petting zoo so I needed the room. I feel its better to have it at a house cause if it rains everyone can go inside and you dont have to worry about the food.

and cant forget the ice pops and juices for the kids (as if they need the sugar ).
If you do have it at a park, think of some games to keep everyone busy (as if you dont have enough to worry about ) but picnic type games for the adults, any games for the kids (designate a wonderful family member for these things ) even a deck of cards will keep a few men happy (Those that dont want to be up and about) I cant count how many times my hubby or BIL ran out to buy a deck of cards last minute because they didnt happen to have one at that place or time
and of course this is your sweetie's special bday party, so make her the center of some kiddie games, they can do ring around the rosie while shes in the middle, or whatever ideas you think of, depending on the ages.
designate a mature child or teenager to take pics throughout the day of anything and everything. we take lots of our own pics, but at certain times pass the camera so NO moments are missed. so dont let the camera sit for one second kids/younger teens have a blast with this, they feel so cool using a hotsie digital camera and they get a kick out of being "photographer" (of course im not saying "put them to work all day" )
i cant think of anything else right now.
ETA: dont forget your battery charger or extra camera batteries! am i going off on too many tangents?
