Passport ?s - going out of my mind!
Hi everyone, maybe someone can help? I have already scoured the passport website and don't see a clear cut answer to my somewhat random situation.
My passport was issued in 1996 and has since expired. It has also been lost, although I know it is probably in my parents house somewhere. In the meantime, my last name has also changed because I got married.
So, here are my questions. I know I have to apply in person and not through the mail, that much I know. But: -Because I need to show picture ID, does my license have to be updated with my new last name before I apply? Or will my marriage license/new SS card be enough in conjunction with my old license? -Do I still need to fill out the lost form if what is lost is expired?
I sent the passport people an email as well but with their "volume" issues, who knows when I'll hear back.
If anyone has any insight, I'd really appreciate it!

Maybe you can make an appointment with someone at a post office in your town? I went to the one in Smithtown and he was very helpful with information.
Good Luck.

Ahh the exciting passport dilemma. I had thought my passport got lost in the mail when I sent it to SS to get a name change..so I looked into this.
Without my old passport, I had to apply for a new passport (after reporting it lost). I could do this in person if I brought my driver's license, marriage cert (to get the new name on it), and passport application to the passport... I had my old passport number to put on the application which was helpful too.
<I wound up finding the passport and just had to do the name change>
In terms of the expiration, I dont think that it matters.. you can't do a renewal anyway since its lost.
