Pastina

The doctor told me that I could make pastina for Sarah now. He said to take 1 tablespoon of pastina, boil it up, drain off most of the water and then add chicken broth. How much chicken broth do I add? Do I continue to cook the pastina in it, or do I cook the chicken broth before adding the pastina?

Or do you prepare it differently?

Thanks!
Cathy

Re: Pastina

I make something similar for my son.

I make like a chicken soup for him and I add everything in together adn let it all cook together.

I usually put pastina, corn, carrots, peas, and chicken. My son doesnt' like things that are too liquid-y so I tried and make it real hearty.

Re: Pastina

My dr at 6 mos said I could try pastina with a little margarine - no butter. So that is how I made it. He didn't love it though. He ate a few spoonfuls and got bored. So I mixed it up with his veggie and he ate it up. I never thought about chicken broth.

She said give him as much as he would eat - so I made a big bowl and gave it to him a few days in a row.

Thanks!

Niecey: Isn't it weird, we go to the same practice and they tell us different ways to make it? I like Dr. Sheila and Dr. Andy better than the dr. I saw the last 2 times. Do you ask for a specific doctor or just who ever is available?

I just make the pastina, drain it, and then mix it with a jar of Stage 2 veggies. He gobbles it up!

Re: Pastina

Instead of pastina i give my son orzo pasta. i cook it in low sodium chicken broth till tender, and then add a piece of american cheese or add some jarred veggies. I found that the orzo is easier to swallow than the pastina,¬ as messy. Also my son loves the whole wheat cous-cous(its just like farina) cooked the same way. I try to feed him as healthy as i can!
