Patchogue-Medford School District
I am looking to move to Patchogue and was wondering about the area and how the schools are. The elementary school we would be zoned for is Barton so if you have any info on this school that would be great. Thanks so much!

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
There will be good and bad reviews. I can say I know a few families who go there and one families daughter had to be switched to another school. Why, because of bullying. Another family, her daughter is behind other kids in reading and math. Another family loves it, praises it. And the finaly family sent there kids to private school after one semester. We would have bought in Patchogue if not for the schools. JMHO.

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
Hi,
I went there and now live in Medford. However, we rent. Our DD is 18 MOS and I will NOT put her in Pat-Med schools. When we buy a home it will be in an area that has GOOD schools. In my opinion they are not a good school district, at least not good enough to send my child. I'd look elsewhere:)

My friend has a daughter in 6th grade there, not sure which school, but she is always being bullied and administration does absolutely nothing about it.

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
Thanks for the opinions everyone, we are not looking to buy yet, just rent but I definitely want my daughter in a good school district. She is only 10 months at the moment but we know we will be renting for the long term.
Please reccommend some decent school districts if you can. I would appreciate it. We are not too familiar with Suffolk and we would like to live near the Southern State. Thank you.

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
Well, as someone who DID buy in Pat-Med school district, I have to disagree about the district. I've yet to encounter one person who is unhappy with the district. I even had the assistant superintendent of Kings Park schools tell me how wonderful the district is and loved it when her kids were in it. She was sad to see them leave it when they moved. I have many private students (I teach flute) tell me how much they love it. They're all thriving and many have gone onto good colleges. As far as I'm concerned, there's bullying and admins who turn a blind eye everywhere. I went to Smithtown, a school district that's supposedly top notch, and we had stabbings, hate crimes, you name it. So, make of it what you will. I'll also add that I'm a teacher, and I consider myself well-informed on these things. Ultimately, everyone does what they think is right, but I honestly think it's a perfectly fine district with fantastic arts and music programs.

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
My BIL & SIL live there and their oldest goes to (I think) Medford Elementary (just south of Sunrise on 112). THey HATE the schools, and have had nothing but problems. My nephew is really behind in reading. I took a look at his second grade homework one night when I was watching him and it was barely kindegarten level. My 4 year old probably could have figured it out.
Let's see, good districts for renting on the South Shore.... Sayville, West Islip, Babylon, Lindenhurst..... there are a lot. Good luck!!!

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
My cousins live there and after listening to them about the school district, I would have to say I personally would not choose it. They have a high schooler, a middler schooler and one in elementary school. JMHO

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
Friends of ours recently pulled both of their children out of the public schools there and placed them in private schools. Without bashing the district I will say this family was extremely unhappy with the schools....There were multiple problems/concerns. When I was student teaching we were banned from going there! Not due to violence but rather contract disputes...I have never really had a good impression of the district from back then and those feelings have been reinforced by our friends.

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
We chose not to look for houses in that district, we also chose not to look at the central islip district. I do like the connetquot district (where dh and I went and I have been involved in activities for the past few years, so I've seen it hasn't changed too much) I have also heard good things about the Hauppauge district. Good Luck!!!

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
My nephews went there (one still is in school) and my best friend is a teacher there.
I don't think it's the BEST school district on the island.. but I also don't think it's the worst. One of the things that impresses me about it is the parent involvement. That says a lot in my opinion. It does have some challenges.. but I know that things are being done to attempt to rectify some of those issues.

This is thr same grade the girl I was speaking about is in. She actually switched to a different middle school.

Re: Patchogue-Medford School District
You are going to have mixed reviews on this one.
I graduated from there. My parents still live in the district and I have several friends who teach there (who I graduated with).
It is not the worst district, but not the best. It is not anything like when I graduated 10 years ago. I haven't heard many good things the past few years.
There are some nice areas, like where you are looking by Barton. But overall, I wouldnt move there or send my kids there. JMO.
