Pathology results...please read
Basically the chromosomal results were not in and my doctor seems to think they were reading too much into the initial testing of the "tissue" but that the placenta seemed to be sort of swollen or something. This could be something that could not completely have gone away and cause tumors so they give you some sort of very mild "chemtherapy" to basically clear you out. He said he doesn't think this is the problem and it isnt a big deal but it FREAKED me out. Has anyone heard about this????? I have about 1-2 more weeks until all results come in. Tick tock tick tock....

Re: Pathology results...please read
it sounds like your doctor was describing a molar pregnancy (also called "hydatiform mole"). do either of these terms sound familiar? let me know, and i can help you get more info.

Sorry I can't help. I have never heard of that. Try not to get to freaked out until you have all the results back. I know it's hard waiting!!

Re: Pathology results...please read
I would wait for the chronosomal results before you do anything.
At my 2 week post-op, the doctor was able to tell me that my miscarriage was due to an extra chronosome #16 - which is 100% fatal. I took comfort in the fact that my body did what it was supposed to do.
Did he say why the results weren't back yet?? It seems like a long time.

It is a long time...right?!?!??!
I went for my 12 week visit on Oct 31when we realized the baby had died at 9w3d. At 7w1d we sawa strong little heartbeat and everything so that is why we weren't thinking "molar". Who knows, all I know is all this waiting is torture. I just want to be pregnant again.

if the baby was developing and then stopped - that definitely points to a chronosomal issue. I had the same thing - development stopped between 8 and 9 weeks. if that's the case, they should be able to give you a good answer as to why. I know for me, it was the closure I needed to move on.

Clotting or blood issues could also be a cause.

Yes I don't really think that is true Karen. Your baby could stop developing for many reasons including chromosomal, clotting, immunological reaction, infection, etc.
As far as the "chemotherapy." It is methotrexate-I have had it. It is an injection they shoot into your hip. It is a very small dose(much smaller than the dose they use for chemo.) It leaves your system in a few days. It basically attacks any lingering cells which is good at this point because you can get sick if there are extra cells in your body from a m./c. It will also help your body get back to normal and get AF again. Good luck. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

I asked my doctor about that, and he said generally those issues occur much earlier in pregnancy.
good point about the infection though - that can really hit at any point. We just got a Fifth's disease alert today at school.
either way, the lab report will hopefully have your answers for you. I was amazed by how much they could tell at only 9 weeks (including the sex ).

Karen just for your knowledge. Clotting can occur anytime from implantation throughout your whole pregnancy. Not all Dr's are as knowledgable on all subjects especially regular ob's. Either way best of luck to all of us that have had to deal with m/c.

I did have a D&C though...I guess that doesn't always rid the tissue or whatever. Why did you have the shot? After that how long did you have to wait before you could try again? My dr did not order any blood work since my D&C more than 3 weeks ago now. He just felt my uterus and said everything seemed OK. Should I be having my levels checked or he wouldn't do that unless there was something alarming in the chromosome report??? I am so confused. Is he doing everything he should be doing???? I feel like they are so nonchalant about things like making me wait 3 days to have the D&C after seeing the baby had died 3 weeks prior.

Re: Pathology results...please read
At my 2 week post-op, all he did was read the lab report and feel around. I think it was the first and only OB appointment that I was actually fully dressed for!! He didn't take any blood from me.
My timing was the same - confirmed on Friday morning that development had stopped, and did my D&C on Monday. My doctor actually wanted to do it Tuesday, but I got lucky that Good Sam had an opening on Monday for an outpatient surgery.

I am confused he is not checking your hcg to make sure it goes down? My Dr. was on my azz about it. This is a necessity! I would call him and ask for a tests and then another on Mon. to make sure your levels are going down. There is no reason to get methotrexate if they are. That is why I got mine. I had a natural m/c(no D&C) but my levels were hovering around 140. This means that somewhere in my body is abnormal tissue producing hcg and that is dangerous especially if it is in your fallopian tube(which your is probably not since you had a D&C.)
You should wait 1 cycle before trying again. Methotrexate can cause birth defects

No I have not had ANY bloodwork done after we found out the baby died. I had a D&C a month ago. I did not have the meth---- shot. I was told to wait 2 cycles before trying again which is fine but I am just scared that my levels have not been confirmed to be back at 0.
