Patricia Cornwell
Are the Scarpetta novels worth reading? I picked one up at the library and can't seem to get into, but I only read the first couple of chapters so far.

Re: Patricia Cornwell
The last few have been horrible.
I really like the earlier ones though!

Me, too! I haven't even bothered with some of the more recent ones.

I agree. I have read pretty much all her books and the older ones are much better. She seems to be giving the characters more "background" and the books don't seem to flow anymore.

the ones that have come in out in the past 5 years or so are just so damn depressing! she's took all the joy out of reading them and made them really painful.
its a shame, because i really enjoyed the characters and her relationship with the detective (mike i think?). It seems she couldn't let anyone in the stories stay happy, they all have to have some horrible tragedy befall them

ITA. The last one I read was The Scarpetta Factor (#17, there are 18 or 19 now) and they were all depressed - Lucy, Marino, Scarpetta, Benton.
