Paver patio this year it's time to seal need advice

we put the niclock patio pavers in last summer. they said this summer we need to seal it. Now, with all the carp falling from the trees, i have to vaccuum it up then seal it.

questions..
how long does it take to dry?
i can't help tree junk from falling down, does this mean that it will be sealed in forever?
powerwashing it would be bad, right?

how did you do it? with a big broom/brush?

any advice would be helpful!!

I have pavers fora few years now and we never have/had to seal them. why do you have to do that?

My mom sealed hers and it changed the look of them. It made them darker. I know she plans it so she powerwashes, lets them dry throughly and then the following day seals everything. The sealant is not forever and needs to be reapplied every so often. We did not seal ours after seeing how hers darkened. We left them alone.

Sealing them makes them look wet, darker, and shiny. Do you want that look? We opted not to do it. Just looks very wet and slick to us. And I have heard they get slicker when it gets icy (don't know if this is true). Most people do not seal them. HTH

my DH installed them professionally for years & I don't remember him ever suggesting that people seal them, so I can't help much

Hmmm. that's interesting. don't know why they told me to do that, unless maybe it makes them last longer?

We have pavers for our patio, walkway, and sides of our driveway and apron and never heard of sealing them before.

I woudnt do it....sounds like its something that you will have to do year after year and the appeal of pavers is that nothing needs to be done to them like blacktop or a wood deck

I definitely would NOT seal tumbled pavers. They are supposed to look tumbled, rustic, not shiny and glossy. Say no to the sealing. And yes, if you did seal, it's just their way of getting you to pay them every so often to do this. It will be a lifetime of maintenance, don't do it. Almost everyone does not seal their pavers. HTH

Well you clinched it for me when you said they are tumbled. Tumbled are supposed to look just that, rustic and rugged, not smooth and shiny. Glad to hear you made a decision based on our responses.Chat Icon
