PCOS and OPKs
I know that OPK's aren't supposed to work with PCOS - but what does that mean, that if you have PCOS you might not ever get a surge? Or it won't be detected?
I haven't gotten AF since 5/8 (not unusual) but I started feeling some activity in the ovaries and had some fertile-type CM so I tried an OPK yesterday and the surge line came up super dark. Could this be a false reading because of my PCOS or is that not what they mean when they say OPKs are not effective for ladies with PCOS? Or could I actually be O'ing on my own?

Re: PCOS and OPKs
given you are having o like pains and have what seems to be fertile CM, you could most definately be surging (can you see your RE to confirm?). I know for me, whenever I got a surge, it always turned out to be a false positive. But that was my case.
HTH! and GOOD LUCK!!!!

Re: PCOS and OPKs
I can't use them because I have a high level of LH which can give false positives.
But I would go it!

Re: PCOS and OPKs
I'm not sure exactly WHY it happens, but I do know that I got an egg reading for the first time EVER on my CBEFM and I got very excited--called the RE, went for bloodwork, and found out that I never ovulated.
She told me to get rid of the CBEFM because it wasn't accurate for me

The OPK worked for me - I got a smiley the same day I had my bloodwork done and they called me w/ a 'surge' -

Re: PCOS and OPKs
The tricky thing with PCOS is for some women (like me) your body "almost" ovulates a lot.
In a 90+ day cycle I would use the CBEFM and get surges every couple weeks (this is before I really knew what was happening).
So my body would get really close to producing an egg, but it would never official "drop", even though my hormone levels shifted.

Hmm. How annoying!
Thanks everyone, I'm thinking it's probably nothing but whatever, we're BDing anyway. Who knows, right? DH isn't complaining LOL.
