PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
Hello,
So far my experience with follistim caused me to make too many follies the first round and it had to be cancelled and I had to sit out a cycle. Then, they tried to hold back last cycle and I only ended up with 1 follie and it was a BFN. Now, I'm left with all of these cysts (due to PCOS) and I have to sit out another cycle.
I spoke to the nurse about it and I am meeting with my dr. on Tuesday. The nurse seems to think (and I agree) that I should consider IVF. I respond very well to the meds and I am at a high risk of getting cancelled out on IUI cycles.
I've read that IVF might be a better option for people with PCOS.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have PCOS and my dr did recommend IVF. He said that this has proven to be very successful for PCOS patients. Definately talk to your Dr and see what he says.

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
I know of quite a few stories of women with PCOS who tried IUI (without success) but then moved on to IVF - and were successful.

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
I can only tell you that I have PCOS and went through eight IUI cycles with one chemical and two cancelled cycles. The chances of getting PG through IVF are so much better. Plus, if you have PCOS you will probably produce a lot of eggs and they can freeze any extras for Frozen cycles...meaning you don't have to do all the stimulation drugs each cycle.

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
Thanks. I sat down with my husband and we decided that this is the route we want to take. I am trying to schedule an appt with my RE. They are going to see if they can squeeze me in for tomorrow.
I just want to have a plan in place.

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
Just wanted to add that I'm a PCOSer too.
We did three unsuccessful IUIs (one chemical) and the doctor pretty much told us we were wasting our time doing any more.
So we moved onto IVF and were successful in our first try.
Lots of luck to you!!!

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
I am in a very similar boat. I also have PCOS and my doctors have not been able to get me to ovulate, so I never even got to IUI. My current RE seems confident that once I move on to injectibles, I will respond well... too well for IUI. So, we are set to start IVF.
Good luck!!!

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
I have PCOS and am currently doing my 3rd IUI cycle. I didn't hyperstim at all and I had one chemical pregnancy as well. I plan to do one more IUI cycle (for a total of 4) then move to IVF.
Good luck to you!

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
Hi, I have PCOS and haven't thought about IVF yet. I am taking Metformin and took Clomid for 4 cycles 3 of which I O'd. My second IUI I got PG but I miscarried. I will be doing Clomid again along with IUI since it worked for me. Good luck to you.

Re: PCOS--IUI vs IVF--thinking of moving to IVF
Well, we are moving ahead with IVF.
I have to go back in a few weeks for CD21 testing (to see if I o'd), then after AF go on BCP for 3 weeks with Lupron. So, I won't really be doing it until the end of April/early May, which is frustrating.
My RE also said that with my PCOS ovaries, OHSS will still be a concern. It could even be that they'll do the retrieval and have to freeze the embryos for a later cycle, if I am in danger of overstimulating.
In the meantime, I'm holding out some hope that the met (I've been on since Dec) might make me o this month and maybe I'll get a BFP the old fashioned way!!!
