PCOS--too many follies = cancelled cycle???
Hello,
I have PCOS and I am on follistim for ovulation induction with IUI. My first cycle was cancelled because I had too many follies and estrogen was too high. Now, I'm no day 5 of taking meds and when I went for the sono this morning. I had 2 follies at 8 and 1 at 7 and about 25 small follies. They said that they are hoping to get just a couple of nice sized ones and hope the smaller ones stay small, but that "because of the PCOS and the number of follies that I am at a increased chance of another cancelled cycle".
Is it too soon to be freaking out? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I'm a PCOS'er too and I had 30 under 12 at one point in my cycle.
I wound up with 14 mature ones, never got to the overstimmed point, but they did keep pulling back my dosages.

Were you doing IVF or IUI?
I'm doing IUI, so we don't want too many mature follies.

Re: PCOS--too many follies = cancelled cycle???
If you are doing IUI, they will definitely cancel the cycle when you hyperstim. I had two or three cancelled IUI cycles when I was doing IUI. They don't want all those eggs being released because the chance of multiples is ridiculously high. May I ask where you are going? And did they do any testing before starting you on IUI's? I only ask because at the RE I went to previously they did 8 IUI cycles and never did an HSG or a CD21 test...which could mean a lot when you are doing IUI.

Re: PCOS--too many follies = cancelled cycle???
Hello Gerty,
I am going to LI-IVF and my dr. is Dr. Brenner. I had the HSG and no issues there. He lowered me to 25iu last night and I went back today and the three follies that were around 8 are now 10.5, 9.5 and 9 and the rest are staying small, so as of now, things are going the way they want it to. I just hope no more follies start growing. I'm waiting for them to call with my instructions and I'm curious what my e2 level will be. It was 174 yesterday, and my lining was 6.5.
If they cancel us out again this time, we're going to move to IVF, because of the PCOS I make so many folllies, and it is easier to control it with IVF.

Re: PCOS--too many follies = cancelled cycle???
That's actually really good news - the follies should grow about 1.5 mm a day so as long as the others are staying small you should be okay!!

Re: PCOS--too many follies = cancelled cycle???
So now they upped me to 75ius for the next 2 days because e2 fell to 95, from 174. I guess I'll know more on Monday.
This is like a roller coaster ride!

The important thing is that they are monitoring you very closely and changing the meds as necessary....everything should be fine.
