Peanut butter and kids party
We were recently invited to a holiday kids party at a friend's house. Parents with kids between 6 months and 4 years.
All that was served for lunch for the kids was peanut butter and jelly.
In light of allegeries and peanuts, what do you think of this?

Were the hosts parents of school aged kids?
I think unless they have a child with the allergy or if their kid is in class with another who does that they really meant no harm. they probably did not give it a second thought other then kids like pbj.

I agree. Unless someone specifically told them not to serve PB, its fine.

Re: Peanut butter and kids party
As a mom of a child with severe food allergies I am now extremely sensitive off food that I give/serve. I am also a teacher and thought nothing of having a prize basket of goodies. Now with my Ds's recently diagnosed allergies I will never ever give out food goodies. I would also be more aware of the food I serve at my home. So to answer your question I think that was extremely stupid, sorry for being so blunt but what about the kids that have not been introduced to peanuts yet, god forbid they had an allergy to it and its airborn so...

Well the same could go for any setting you know? You could be at the park sitting next to someone who is eating a PB sandwich. Or touching the swings that someone with peanut butter hands touched. I'm sympathetic to the problems parents of children with nut allergies face, but it's unrealistic to think that no one should ever serve PB if your child hasn't been exposed to it yet. I don't give DD PB yet but I would never in a million years tell someone they couldn't eat it around my child because she hasn't had it yet.

Re: Peanut butter and kids party
I think since it was a party for kids the person throwing it is a parent and every parent of a child in that age range is aware of peanut allergies. I think there should have been another choice because not everyone likes peanut butter anyway.

Re: Peanut butter and kids party
2 totally different settings I have no control over the outside world and dont expect anyone to "cater" to my sons allergies ro anyone elses allergies. However in a home where I have complete control and with such severe reactions to peanuts I would not serve it unless I had talked to everyone invited and asked them personally. Obviosuly this person didnt do that.

Re: Peanut butter and kids party
I'm pretty conscious of food allergies & always ask before my son's September birthday if there are any allergies just to be safe.
Once I get the ok from the teacher that there are no allergies, I would be fine with serving PB&J. But I probably wouldn't serve PB&J because J is too sticky so I would opt for pizza.

I was specifically replying to this part of your post:
