Pediatrician to discharge baby from NSUH-Manhasset
I live out in suffolk so my current ped obviously doesn't go to the hospital where I'm delivering. I need a dr in the area just to check baby and discharge. I'd rather not have the residents/attending do it. Any recommendations? I feel a little bad having a dr come in to see the baby but not using them upon discharge. TIA!

I'm not sure you'll find one to do that, I think that's what the hospital Drs are for???

I think using the attending doctor is more than okay in this situation. You'll be bringing the baby to your doc within a day or two of getting home!

I agree with this- the attending doctor at NSUH would be fine!

Why wouldn't you want to use the attending? I dont know if you will find a Dr for just hospital visit without becoming a patient.

Re: Pediatrician to discharge baby from NSUH-Manhasset
My DD was born in Manahasset (Community Drive). She was in the NICU for 6 weeks. I live in E. Northport and my ped. is in Huntington. I let whoever was there discharge her. She went to our ped a day or 2 later.

Why would some random Dr you get to come one time be better than the hospital ped?

I delivered there and just had their doc d/c DS, then went to my ped. 2 days later. You def. won't find a doctor to go there just to d/c your child.

The attendings are the ones overseeing their care there anyway so they would have the history on your baby. I would rather have someone who knew the baby's history determine if they are ready for discharge.

I was in the same situation but different hospital. I delivered at Lenox Hill and my ped was in Queens. I asked my obgyn for a recommendation and he referred a ped that was always at that lenox hill for discharging his own patients. So that is who we used.

I remember vaguely my OB saying something about this when I had DC#1. I'll have to ask him. Thanks!

Re: Pediatrician to discharge baby from NSUH-Manhasset
My Ob recommended a pediatrician after I delivered since mine didn't visit the hospital either...but I planned on just letting the attending check out the baby

Re: Pediatrician to discharge baby from NSUH-Manhasset
DS was born at NYU but it's common practice just to choose one of the pediatricians from NYU to do the daily checks on your LO and then discharge the baby to a different dr. This happens all the time!
