Pediatrician Vent!!! sorry long
I called the Ped this evening because DD has had diarrhea since Thursday. I thought it was getting a little better but today she had 5 more episodes. I have been doing the BRAT diet and no improvement. I was going to wait to call tomorrow but then she had a huge explosion and I just wanted to make sure there was nothing else I should be doing. The oncall Ped calls back. I have only dealt with her one other time when I was a nervous mom to a newborn who was spitting up a lot and she wasn't very helpful then. So, I start to tell her the story and she interupts me tells me what I already know because she didn't let me ask what my question was. Then I continue, and again she interupts and gives advice that is irrelevant and she would have known if she had listened to me. Then, she tells me that if I am still concerned in the morning to call. So I say..."it has been 5 days with diarrhea, I have been doing what you said to do already, should I be concerned? And if not, at what point should I be?" Her response: "If she is having a lot of explosive poops and you are concerned, bring her in." At that point, I just say OK and hang up. She clearly was annoyed I even called and I wasn't being helped at all. Maybe it was inappropriate to call, but she was already on the phone so she might as well have been helpful. ARGGH!!! I'm calling my Ped tomorrow! VENT OVER!

After 5 days of diarrhea, you have every right to be concerned. Many moms on here have experienced dehydration resulting in hospitalization firsthand. She shouldn't be annoyed that you called at all.
I would tell your pediatrician that the two after hours calls you've had with the covering pediatrician were extremely frustrating, that you were left with no answers & she was annoyed at being called. The last thing you need is someone who is giving you the feeling that you shouldn't have called when you are concerned about something. No one wants to be the person that should have called earlier & didn't.

Love them! But they are not open 24 hours, I am pretty sure they close at midnight.
