Pediatricians
I think I found one- she seems a little young. But she is a Harvard Med grad, right by my house, affiliated with a great hospital and takes my insurance- and no lawsuits.
Do you interview the pediatricians or just make your first appointment and see how it goes?

Re: Pediatricians
i have my first interview in a couple of weeks.
it will be with my old pediatrician (who i can't believe is still practicing) but more of a "what/who do you recommend" type of conversation because once can only assume he won't be practicing for much longer. he works with a group of people, so depending on what he says i may/may not sign up with the group...
when my parents selected him he was fresh out of school as well. of all the pediatricians my sister and i have had, they say he is still their favorite!

Re: Pediatricians
I interviewed the peditrician ahead of time to see what their feelings on BF, vaccinations, etc. were. I wanted to make sure that the practice I chose would be supportive of the parenting decisions I made.

I did, so that I knew which practice I wanted so that they could check her out in the hospital. The hospital has a ped. on staff that will discharge the baby, but I wanted one of the doctors in the practice to see her from day 1 so that if (god forbid) there was something wrong they were aware of it right away and it didn't wait a week for our first appt.

Does most insurance company pick up this cost for the pediatrician in the hospital?

Yes, I believe so. Mine did.
Actually, now that I think about it, they may not have put in for it, the first one I remember getting a claim on was her 1 week appt. But I could be forgetting.
Also, my pediatrician's office does rounds at the hosptials they are affiliated with every day, so when we checked in the nurses asked which ped. we were going to use and they called them to let them know she was born and they should check her out at their next rounds. I'm nerotic, so I made DH call them when he got home that night also. The 4 doctors in my practice take turns with the rounds, so you don't know which one it will be, but one of them definately saw her each day and then stopped by my room to answer any questions and let me know that everything was fine with her.
