Pentagon Federal Credit Union?
Someone that DH works with has recommended Pentagon Federal Credit Union for a mortgage-- it is an online bank with decent rates, and it boasts NO CLOSING COSTS. To me, this sounds too good to be true-- have any of you had any experience with them, or heard anything about them?

Re: Pentagon Federal Credit Union?
usually credit unions have specifications on who can be members:
Pentagon Federal Credit Union serves 700,000 members in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, defense-related companies, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. We were federally chartered in 1935 and serve our members worldwide.
Do you fit one of these categories?

Re: Pentagon Federal Credit Union?
Yes- we can use them. Even if you have a grandparent who was in the service, you can use them. I have spoken to a few people today who have used them for mortgages, and they all said that PFCU was legit and quite reasonable. I guess that it is something I will be looking into...

did those people you spoke to say that they had no closing costs at all? if so, that's awesome!

I think that you have to pay something-- it is probably less than the typically 12-15k, I didn't ask the exact amount b/c I didn't want to pry, but I think that the closing costs would prob. be around 7k maybe? I don't know, but I am definitely looking into it!

It might be a good deal. Credit Unions usually can give better deals, because they are member-owned and not out for making huge profits like the commercial banks. They give the profits back to their members
good luck (remember you will still have to pay some things at closing like property taxes, oil, and some mortgage)
