People coming in sick to work
Our company has a great policy - unlimited sick days - but if you are out 3 or more days or out the day before a 3 day weekend you need a dr's note.
Well yesterday my supervisor came in with stomach flu - yup she had been home the past two days but could STILL not keep anything down but didn't want to go to the dr - so she came in from 9-1 and then left - she touched everything around fax, printer, copier and was throwing up in the bathroom.
Then a number of people had fevers and bad sore throats that think they have strep - but they CAME in b.c they want to go to the dr on friday and take it off.
I took a vacation day today - b/c I had stomach flu this weekend last year and when I get sick I get really sick - I could understand if the company only gives a few sick days - but we have unlimited - and they are coughing and touching everything and walking around the office.
Oh and one of them said oh you shouldn't be worried pregnant women have better immune systems than non pregnant women do.

Re: People coming in sick to work
I hate when people do that crap. I tell everyone in my office if you are sick dont come in. I hate to be sick and i hate when people just spread nasty germs all over the place.

Re: People coming in sick to work
You know if it was a cold it would one thing - but strep and not on antibotics or stomach flu and physically throwing up is another thing - they use the fax, copiers stick their hands in the ice bin - so they contaminate everything. We have cubicles and not offices so there is no hiding...LOL

Re: People coming in sick to work
Thank you - I am actually feeling okay - I just don't need to be around it b.c I do catch things a little easier I think. Hopefully by Tuesday people will be feeling better.

That is my biggest pet peeve!!!
I teach preschool and you have no idea how many mother's send their kids in sick - runny noses like you wouldnt believe. I swear I catch a cold at least once a month. I actually have one now... I have been given permission by my director to call the parents and ask them to pick up their child if I see any signs of a cold...

Who knew you had a doctor in the office
Geez - I can't believe they all came in like that. You were very smart not to be in today. The last thing you need is to get sick. I hate how people seem to not understand that it's so much more difficult when you are pregnant.

You know the sad part - is that they SHOULD know better - I work in claims for a medical malpractice insurance company - I do have doctors in the office most days doing reviews for us - and the person who said that to me is in a high position.

I use Clorox wipes on everything. I even use Clorox spray on equipment.
I don't care if anyone is offended. They come in sick... I am protecting myself as much as possible.

That's really annoying... I'm sorry!
I blame American culture for the "going to work sick" phenomenon. Only workers in Japan and South Korea get less time off than we do, so people tend to "save" their sick days (and spread their germs). Bah!

Absolutely!! My sister lost a baby she was carrying back in 2004 becuase one of her friends exposed her to her sick child who had Fifth's disease (she knew it too). I can't tell you how many times while I was PG I would have people who were ill coming to my house (idiot husband invited them over) or coming over to hug me

See again I could see this if we were limited in our days - but we get unlimited sick days - you just need a dr's note (and they pay for our health insurance so you can't say people don't have insurance) if you are out 3 days or more - so they come in b.c they don't want to see the dr for a note. So really there isn't an excuse as long as you are legitimately sick

Well then your co-workers are being even more annoying then I initially thought!

Kids get colds ALL the time though. If someone kept their kid home for a common cold with no fever (I'm not talking about hacking up a lung and green mucus coming out of the nose), many kids would miss so many days. I send my kid to school with a runny nose. If he has a fever, he doesn't go. I'm surprised your center allows you to sends kids home that don't have a fever. They won't do that in elementary school.

Re: People coming in sick to work
I know what you mean. I was just complaining about the same thing. A couple of weeks ago a woman came to work with the shingles and this week one girl has a bad upper respiratory who is coughing all over the place and I sit across from her. I definetely do not want to get sick. People are unbelievable!
