I use a medium size rectangular shaped satchel. It's not too big but large enough to carry everything I need for work - wallet, phone, book or magazine, lunch, papers, etc.

I used to use a Longchamps tote but I like to have inside and outside pockets, so now I use this:

I only commute by subway -- but I use the medium size longchamp bag and it fits my wallet, makeup bag, blackberry, book, umbrella, sometimes even an extra pair of shoes.

I had a couple of different tote bags - a Mickey one and a Swiss Army one I got from Macy's when I registered.
