People who did IVF-ICSI- Update
Has anyone ended up using a sperm donor bc DH did not have sperm when TESE was done? It was mentioned to us as something to consider (even though the odds of DH not having sperm are very low).
I am conflicted about doing this, but DH couldn't be more sincere when he said he wished for me to carry the baby and that bc the baby would he half of me, it would be all off his! Gotta love that man
Update I started looking at the catalogs for donors. I realized that DH really needs to pick since it is his "substitute."
Last night I just had a sense of peace over what to do about this. I ran by DH the thought that we do this cycle on a hope and a prayer that he has viable sperm from TESE. No backup. I would accept having done injections for no reason if TESE fails. But then I would have time to clear my mind of that effort, and prepare myself for the path of donor sperm. I can't tell you how I just relaxed. DH was supportive of this decision and understands how I feel rushed to pick a donor. He said he would feel the same way if I was doing egg donor. Thanks to everyone for their words of support!!!!!! I love this website!! I am so not alone

I don't have experience with this but from what I understand, the donor sperm is "just in case" they can't retrieve any sperm from your DH. They only need to find a few viable sperm to do ICSI.

Re: People who did IVF-ICSI
Has your DH has a SA done? If he has and he does have some normal sperm, I wonder why they asked you about donor sperm? You shouldn't need it unless your husband was practically sterile and had little to no sperm.
I did ICSI b/c DH has low morphology.

Re: People who did IVF-ICSI
He had no sperm in his SA. But there was sperm present immediately after the vasectomy reversal. There just ended up being scarring that blocked the way after it healed over time. I think that is why they are pretty sure sperm will be there for ICSI. But they mentioned us having sperm back up just in case.

Oh I see. Well I guess you need to do what you're comfortable with. That's a hard decision to make as you have to choose the sperm donor that you want. Hopefully it'll never need to be used

Re: People who did IVF-ICSI
I know it's not ideal, but can they do TESE prior to your IVF cycle and freeze any sperm they are able to retrieve?
We had a frozen sample on standby if my husband was not able to produce the day of my ER.

Re: People who did IVF-ICSI
We wanted the first attempt to be fresh all the way. I had no strong opinion on fresh or not, but DH did. So I went with his feelings since I did not have a preference really. So that is why we don't have frozen available. The docs seem to feel it is a very small likelyhood that we would need a donor, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

We were told Fresh or Frozen, it didn't matter. My RE actually required my DH to provide a sample to be frozen prior to my ER "just in case"
that you don't have to make the decision for a donor!

Re: People who did IVF-ICSI
We did IVF/ICSI and had to have "backup" but we were able to get sperm via the TESE method....

Re: People who did IVF-ICSI
We did IVF through ICSI but did not require a backup method since our reason was solely low morphology & low motility.

I think you made a good decision. Chosing a donor is a major thing and something you should not rush or have reservations about. Best of luck and hopefully you won't even need to think about a donor.
