If I am interpreting the original post correctly, the OP was posting on a Pets board which I believe is populated by Pet-lovers...so I don't think there was any "harm" really in her saying that....plus looks like she is a new poster, so..doesn't know the "rules" around here

Personally, I don't really like dogs that much. I'm a cat person and I can be around dogs, but I don't think I'd ever own one of my own. I just have no desire to.
Does that make me weird?

I just think they are.. There is something weird about them.. I am not talking about people who dont own a pet for certain reasons.. i am saying people who dont LIKE animals, they have a certain way about them that's strange to me.. That's all I meant.. You dont have to agree.... maybe it is just me that feels that way. Thats why i posted it.

I don't agree that people who don't like animals are weird, but I do think its weird if people don't see cruelty to animals as wrong.
For example, remember a few years ago in Puerto Rico when they were confiscating pets and throwing them off the bridge and killing them?
If someone were to say to me, who cares they are just animals. I would think that there is some sort of mean streak to them and something is wrong. It goes along with how they say that people that senselessly torture animals as children have a high chance being violent as adults.
That is not the same as a person who doesn't want a pet, or doesn't like other people's pets. There is a difference. I think that is what the OP was trying to say.

First, I cannot believe this thread is STILL going...
Second, the OP said "don't like" -- it wasn't until pages and many posts later that she brought up the cop who pulled over the couple trying to get their dog to the vet (or anything remotely having to do with animal cruelty).
NO ONE who said they disagreed that people who don't like animals are weird condoned cruelty to animals (or condoned thinking cruelty to animals is okay). That's a totally separate issue.

I understand that my general wording "like" and weird" were hard to interpret but my many posts after were trying to get this exact point across.. The whole thing got twisted around and very frustrating.. I want to thank you (and the others that understood) for going out of your way to read through this and see where I was coming from.. as PP "casey girl" posted i am new and didnt know there were rules on how you have be around here..

This is the first time I ever saw this post, I didn't know it was going on for a while. I wasn't singling anyone out or said that anyone here was condoning animal cruelty. I was only stating that I personally believe that it doesn't make people weird if they don't like animals, but if they condone animal cruelty or are not phased by the senseless harming of animals, than IMO they are dysfunctional, and I *think* that is the point that the OP was trying to get across.

I can kind of see what the OP is saying. I personally dont "get" how you cant "like" animals. You dont have to own one or go to the zoo, but to not like them is kind of weird. I noticed in life I tend to gravitate towards dog people without even knowing it until we get into the convo.

I thought of someone who doesn't like animals.....my neighbor who was attacked and almost killed by her friendly fun-loving dog. He was not a mean dog, not a bad animal, not violent, and usually very gentle. One day he snapped and he attacked her. He outweighed her by a lot and had her husband not been there to pull him off of her, she would most likely be dead.
So, as she stares at the very noticeable and large scar on her face from the attack....she might reflect on how she doesn't like animals so much anymore.

I am so sorry for your neighbor... that should never happen to anyone.
But with that said... does she also dislike fishtanks? Or birds? Or turtles?
Im not sure but the way I read the OP's statement was that people who dont like animals, any animals, are weird.

I couldnt Quote two posts so I wanted you to know I meant that for you..
Now its very hard to for me to believe that you dont like animals the way yiou claim not to and the way I meant it.. You re certainly not one of those people.. Especially since you posted such adorable pictures of your parents dog at your shower.. (which you claim to not like) If you were the person I was talking about that dog would have been no where near you (as your smiling looking down) or your gifts.. Now maybe you can get the jist of how I really meant this whole post!! Guy like that friggin cop who let the dog die and said "its just a dog you can get another one" ones that dont consider them living creatures and have no regard for for them.. There are people who did read this post and get this was how I meant it.. The word "weird" was what people had a hard time with and I tried to explain myself over and over and over again.. It was the first word that came to mind.

I don't trust people who don't like animals. Period. I think it's strange. They can have their reasons, and that's fine. But there's something I just don't like about someone who doesn't like animals.
You can attack me, and that's fine. I should say that I'm a huge cat lover, and I'm also highly allergic. I don't feel that being allergic to animals (unless DEATHLY allergic) impedes loving animals in any way.
DH and I took in a stray cat who was pregnant about 2 months ago. As a result, we now have her and her 7 kittens in one of our upstairs bedrooms. I was commended and complimented up the wazoo about how I was such a good person, how there should be more people in the world like me, etc. etc. But in all honesty, I find it strange and upsetting that we were the ONLY ones that were willing to take her in and make sure that she and her babies were safe. Oh, and by the way, DH is highly allergic to cats, too. It just comes down to having a compassionate heart and DOING WHAT'S RIGHT.

I have come across people who do not like animals and i find they are peculiar.. I have had this experience.. Not everyone has to own one.. But just have compassion for these living creatures.. I just cant see how you could NOT LIKE dogs or NOT LIKE cats.. I have seen people try to run cats over when they see them crossing the street  Just because they dont like cats!! or squirrels.. That makes me sick.. I would probably crash into a tree to try to avoid hitting an animal.. I guess I should have used the word HATE.. But I try never to use that word. I dont like it.
You did an amazing thing for that mommy and her babies..
I am sure PP are going to jump on this and say I should have said harm animals but just ignoring a suffering animal without doing SOMETHING anything (call for help) just because they dont care for animals is to me weird.. From my second post down I tried to get this point across.. People like to argue and find drama I now realize this..And I notice its ALWAYS the same posters over and over.. Too bad.

I don't particularly LOVE cats, but I would NEVER run them over! I'm HIGHLY allergic to cats and any one I've ever met has scratched me one way or another.
I AM a dog lover on the other hand, and I'm guilty for letting my dogs lick my face, mouth, hands, and they sleep in bed with me.
Does this make me only HALF weird?
