People who have a cleaning lady

quick questions?

How big is your house?

Do you despise cleaning?

Just wondering.

I would love to have one, but would probably hate it because I am extremely anal about my home, and people touching my things.

i dont despise cleaning. i will clean. i just hate scrubbing my bathtub and tiles, hate cleaning the grates of my gas stove, dusting my chandelier and furniture, and hate mopping my hardwood floors.

my house was always clean before i got the cleaning person, but someone coming to do the heavy duty stuff 2x a month is a huge help.
now i dont feel yucky walking around barefoot and i am not ashamed of the dust.

i work from 7-6 so when i get home and make dinner and eat, its way too much for me to do heavy duty cleaning after all that. esp on the weekend when i want to relax from work!


eta - my home is about 1250-1300 sq feet

I'm in an apartment, not a house ... but, it is not that I despise cleaning, it is that it is easier to pay someone to do it than for me to waste my free time doing it.
When we were first married we would go round and round over who cleans what, how it's done, when it was to be done. etc, etc ... and we decided that right now we could afford someone to come in and do it for us.
It frees up my time to focus on keeping our closets neat, our desk organized, my kitchen cabinets organized. Once a week I go through and give back dry cleaning hangers, throw out old hangers, hang everything up neatly, put the shoes in order, etc. Sounds funny written, but I hate when things are all over the place.
There are certain things that she doesn't do (like cleaning the top of my 8' Entertainment Center ot touching my crystal) that I am happy to do.

I live in a 2200 sq ft split level house.I have help due to a back injury.I had to get used to having the help. Plus I hate to clean anyway

I don't hate cleaning - it was just taking up too much of my time- so for $65 a week- someone else does it for me

We both work two jobs. I have a 4 bd 2 bath bi-level house. We have her clean 2x a month. Totally worth it. DH is not the greatest about cleaning and we got tired of fighting about it.

I don't hate the clean it just that when you spend 70 hrs a week working..who wants to clean?

we have a small duplex.
i hate cleaning so dh and i hired a woman who comes everyother week.
it's such a joy!

I dont have all that much time to clean - 2 kids and a full time job. We have someone every other week. She is not the best but its better than me having to do it

Do you tell them what you want done? Like there are certain rooms I don't mind cleaning and ones that I do.

My current house is 2400 sq feet, new house about 3000sq feet and I DESPISE cleaning and hate using the free time I have to clean. DH would be helpful but he is not good at it so its just a constant battle.
For me its worth the money.

Those of you who have someone come by 2x a month for the big stuff, would you mind sharing with me about how much you spend? We were thinking of getting someone because we just can't keep up with a lot of stuff with working and the baby. Feel free to FM me. Thanks!

In a prior post i asked for cleaning person recomendations and being that no one responded, i assumed that either the people who read the post either don't use a cleaning person or maybe they don't live in the w.suffolk/e.nassau area....but now seeing all the people that do use one and responded on this post, i'm thinking...wow, maybe it's personal!!!

Maybe people want to hog thier cleaning ladies so that only they can have pristinely beautiful houses! J/k ... I'm sure it wasn't personal. Maybe you can ask again?

I recently decided to get someone to come in 2x per month - though I haven't started yet....still want to do some major cleaning projects before someone comes in and tries to make sense out of my crap. My main motivation for having someone come in is that I just never have enough time to clean the whole house (small house, like 1600 sq ft). With two big dogs, me and DH (both of us tend to be sloppy) - and 65+ hours a week....it just seems like I can spend an entire day cleaning my main floor, and not even getting to my bedroom upstairs...and vice versa. In my mind, if someone can help me with the basics: dusting, floors and bathrooms, I'll have more time free for organization, laundry and paperwork.

I sure hope it helps....because I'm quite frustrated by our disorganization!

I have a cleaning lady (and partner) that come every 3 weeks. I hired them when I was on modified bedrest with my second child. Well, almost 2 years later, she's still here. I love it! Instead of spending time on the weekends cleaning, I just have to do little maintenance things in between (like toilets, vaccuum...etc.) I am a SAHM but still hardly find time to do a large amount of cleaning.
My cleaning people clean EVERYTHING. They even move the furniture to clean under couches, beds, armoires, etc. However, I do find myself having to spend 1/2 an hour putting stuff back where they belong after they leave. It's a little annoying. My house is approx. 1500 sf. I pay $80 every 3 weeks. Two people are cleaning for approx. 4 hours. I hope I can keep them forever!

I have someone come every week...it's a lifesaver! We are not sloppy at all...just it's easier for her to come and scrub the bathrooms, kitchen, etc. I would rather spend 1/2 to 1 hour "fixing" things that she maybe missed...then to spend my entire Saturday cleaning the whole house during my free time.

Do you trust them? Are you there the whole time they are working? I am thinking the 2 times a month sounds great! Do they do a better job cleaning? Like I can never get my glass shower doors really, really clean.

My house is approx. 1,800 sq. ft. and my cleaning lady comes every 2 weeks. I got her through two ladies I know who already use her and I trust her completely.

I work in the city, and on a good day I am out of the house 13 hours - on a bad day it could be 18. My DH also works long days and likes to spend the weekends working on his garden.

I actually like cleaning, but my weekends consist of laundry, ironing and grocery shopping. My DH also hated to hear the vacuum running when he was trying to relax on the weekends, so now it's done on a Thursday and we come home to a spotless house. I only have to run the stick vac and bleach the bathroom on the week that she doesn't come. My cleaning lady is excellent and I have never had to re-do anything that she is supposed to take care of.
