People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
We are taking a cruise on Princess in February out of Ft. Lauderdale. We have not booked our airfare, and we just found a decent price and want to book. But the time the flight leaves out of Ft. Lauderdalle is 10:30 AM.
Would I have enough time to get off the ship, and get to the airport for check-in?
Please help...I need to book like NOW...
Thanks!

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
yes you DEFINITELY have enough time
remember, you need to be at the airport an hour before so that would be 930
most people are off the ship by 8ish - 830

What time do you dock? How far is the port from the airport? It sounds like it would be nearly impossible unless you are off the ship by 8am.

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
honestly, i wouldn't cut it that close.
I would opt for another flight after 11, 11:30.
We just did the same thing in August, and we had a 1pm flight home. We had enought time to grab a sandwich for the plane and relax for an hour.
eta: we weren't off the ship until 10, and there were many colors to be called after us.

No way. It's bad enough to be going home, let alone having to rush and probably missing the plane. I wouldn't book anything earlier than Noon.

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
If it wasn't February, I would say go for it. But the weather could be crazy, and a 15 minute ride to the airport could take a lot longer. Getting off the ship might be the easy part - usually if you can show proof of an early flight they will assign you one of the earlier colors. Also, if you are willing to walk off with all your luggage, you can get off pretty early.
How much of a savings is it?

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
i dont think the weather would be crazy in february in ft. lauderdale
we went there for our honeymoon cruise
yes, if you tell them you have an early flight they will assign you an early color
you must give Princess your flight info

I think it is a risk. Granted I have never cruised out of Ft Lauderdale but the 3 cruises that I have been on I have never left the ship before 9:30am.

Big risk! Last cruise we didn't get off until after 9am.
I would find a later flight.

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
from an experienced cruiser, i can tell you with 10000% certainty - 10:30 - wayyyy too early - you need a later flight.
UNLESS you opt to carry your own bags off - and even then

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
I would call the cruise line and ask them. I thought that they let you off the ship in the order of your flight So people with the earliest flights get off first KWIM.

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
I would not risk it. Its easier to get to the airport early and ask if there are any seats on the earlier flight left, vs. missing your flight and having to pay extra to get on the next one, IF they even have seats open.
Is it really worth it?? IMO it wouldn't be.
We had priority 1 to leave and i don't think we got to the airport before 9:45 and that was without any bumps. Should it be raining and it take longer, or say you don't get the first # to leave the ship. Not worth it IMO

I believe they do this, but we had booked a grand suite, and they give you priority boarding and leaving. We were given tickets to leave before everyone else, and had a special area to check in to without having to wait on the line.
But I was told, other then those rooms they try to work it by your flight.

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
I have been on about 15 cruises (and my parents have been on close to 30) and I can tell you - you might make it IF everything goes smoothly - but IMO I wouldn't chance it. I have gone on princess out of FLL before as well as celebrity out of FLL and while most of the time they are good and the airport is close - the last time they put our bags in with the wrong color and it took 45 mins to find all our bags. Another trip my family and I almost missed a 1230 flight b.c they were late in docking and had some issues clearing customs (they kept calling people who didn't show).
The problem is you never know - the weather, whether the ship will clear customs in a timely manner and if the ship will dock on time, your luggage will be where it should be, you get a taxi easily etc. I try not to take anything before 1130 - if not 12. It is stressful way to end the cruise if you are worrying about whether you will get to the airport and check in, get thru security etc in time to make the flight.
If you decide to risk it - make sure you ask for an early disembarkation number/color. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get thru security b.c you will be most likely going thru with anywhere from 2 - 10 other ships who will be docking and disembarking at the same time as yours will.

I wouldn't cut it close. I rather wait for a later flight then have to pay extra and wait for a standby flight to go home.
As others have said, you never know what can go wrong...

I definately wouldn't chance it!
The last cruise I went on, there was a problem with something (I can't remember what, a passenger, or clearing customs or something), and they could disembark anyone until the problem was cleared up. We didn't get off the boat until 9:30.
I would opt for a later flight.

Re: People who have cruised before...NEED HELP!
I totally think you're taking a risk...I cruised in July and getting off the ship was like a cluster----...I don't remember the time/color we had...but, it was way over an hour after whatever time I was originally supposed to get off the ship...
It was actually all the people who opted to get off with their luggage first who caused the backup...they were actually making announcements and closing off areas because there were soooo many people...I even started to get nervous...
