People Who Vote ...
I noticed on the news this morning that Bloomburg recieved somewhere around 700,000 votes and Ferrer received somewhere in the 400,000 range.
In a city of 10 million people, only 1.1 million people voted in a MAJOR election? Where are the other 8.9 million people?????? Granted some are immigrants or unable to vote for whatever reason, but you canot tell me only 1.1 million people in NY can vote.
It makes me sick that people b!tch and complain about the government, the laws, the taxes, the city run programs, the ELECTED officials, but they cannot take 15 minutes out of their day once per year to VOTE.
UGH! VENT OVER!

Re: People Who Vote ...
I agree with you - the turn out was pathetic but it was said that alot of people chose not to bother to vote because it was predicted that Bloomberg was going to win by landslide anyway.
Edited for spelling

Re: People Who Vote ...
I feel like this every election day. DH and I went last night at around 6:30 when he got home from work and there was NO ONE there! We walked right into the booths. When we got out, 2 people were waiting
It bothers me so much that I've gotten into the habit of, when people start debating a topic, asking if they voted. If the answer is no, I refuse to listen to anything they have to say.

Re: People Who Vote ...
granted I did not like either candidate and had a hard time deciding who I was going to vote for, but I did it. Showing up makes a statement.
200+ years ago, people fought and people died to make America a democracy. And 1.1 million people show up to vote on election day? It's pathetic!

Re: People Who Vote ...
I agree with Sandra's assessment of the expected landslide affecting voter turnout. I'm personally an advocate of keeping pre-election polls under wraps except to the candidates themselves for this very reason.
However, people don't seem to 'get' that there were many elections run yesterday. I personally voted in 11 elections and on 4 propositions. Even if people thought the mayorial race was a runaway victory for Bloomberg, what about the other 14 things they needed to vote on??

I agree!! Especially Prop 2 which passed... I don't want to hear those people who didn't vote complaining later about why NY decided go into debt for $2.9 billion.
