Perinal Massage..
I get this weekly email about my baby, and labor and the whole process...
A couple weeks ago it was all about Perinal Massage, and if you begin that now..your "area" will be more likely to stretch..therefore less chance of epis..or tearing...
I tried to read the directions...but Im was so confused!!
First off anyone try this? And does it really work?

Re: Perinal Massage..
I read about it one of my books and it tells you how you (or your DH) can stretch the area with your fingers. You're supposted to stretch it until you feel a burning tingling sensation... Then stop and try again.
Why cause yourself pain? I don't know if it works, I didn't do it and it the long run, I didn't need to do it because I had a c-section.

Re: Perinal Massage..
i have a friend who delivered with a midwife and during delivery she said the midwife was massaging her, she didn't tear and didn't get cut. i'm not sure if this was just a coincidense or not

Re: Perinal Massage..
We learned about it in my Lamaze class and they gave us a sheet with diagrams (eep!) and directions. you can use some oil to massage in also, but personally it seemed a little weird to me. i just don't feel comfortable doing it. so i never have. i've heard of people tearing reguardless, or not tearing without it.

I don't believe it's coincidence. Midwives do the pernieal massage during labor with your because they are there longer than to just catch the baby. I will let you know what my midwives do. DH wasn't into doing it, you should have seen the look on his face.

Re: Perinal Massage..
Lol, I told my husband that I didn't want to do it to myself but that he coudl do it and he was like "why in the world would I want to stretch you out???"
i think the whole thought terrified him. he's so afraid of hurting me or something.
as far as the directions, i think you're just supposed to like put your thumbs in there and stretch until it stings a bit. sorry if that's TMI. you stretch for a few seconds, then relax, then do it again. it just doesn't sound fun to me.
