personal injury (due to a car accident (DWI)) Attorney recommendation
I don't know where to begin to start to look for an attorney. A drunk driver who was fleeing from the police rearended me (with DH and my kids in the car) the other night and I'd like to meet with an attorney to discuss the options.
Any suggestions or advice? TIA

you had a sprained neck right?
I'd try and settle it directly with the insurance company (if it's allstate; they are usually harder and prefer to take all of their cases to trial).. otherwise, you will have to show a true and permanent impairment and being that it's only a neck injury, it could take years before you even see anything, if anything at all and you'll have to go to countless doctor appts to meet that threshold.

3 yrs it will take, not a day over.
Insurance companies have that time period to settle things out, and involving an attorney will just help out your situation. if the injuries are severe and their insurance (if any) is exceeded and then a trial will take place to take care of your injuries and then some.

While I agree w/most of this to an extent (especially as far as Allstate goes), I think you really should meet w/an attorney. You may have a sprained neck now, but you don't know how you may feel in a few days, weeks, etc. It can take that long for a doctor to even send you for an MRI, which could show more damage. Plus, an attorney will explain your rights to you and help you through the process.

Not true. In most motor vehicle cases, you have 3 years max to start a lawsuit. A case can take years to settle.

I would not do ANYTHING without an attorney. Don't answer any of their questions, don't make any statements, NOTHING, don't get pressured into it - you don't have to respond to anything. GET AN ATTORNEY for your sake and your kids sake. Back injuries are tricky and can show up over time. Make sure you get checked out immediately and then follow-up. Was there extensive damage?
It doesn't matter how long it takes, a year or three years. What matters is that you're compensated for your time, pain and suffering and that your kids have no long-term injuries.
What area are you in?

John Korman
They are located in Manhattan, but they definitely handle LI/Westchester cases.
