Pet cremation question for those that went thru this

Did you do private cremation?

How expensive was it?

The vet said they do it based on weight. DH and I were laughing last night - I joked and said, well thank god he lost his appetite and lost all this weight - if he died when he was 20 lbs he would have been a fortune...

You have to laugh at times like these....

Re: Pet cremation question for those that went thru this

we paid $175 for private. We don't have a real urn yet (terrible, i know Chat Icon ), just the one we picked him up in. He was 10 lbs when we put him down.

The place (Regency Forest) picked him up at the vet after we called, and he was ready a week later.

FM if you need any more info. I have the number somewhere. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Its devistating, but beleive me, i am very happy we paid the money for private cremation. When everyone said we were wasting our money, i knew we wouldn't regret it. He is on our mantle, next to a big 8 x 10 pic of him and his favorite toy, It is comforting to see him, and know he is still there.

I did a private cremation for all my animals. Two of them were free b/c my BIL was a pet cremator at the time and he did them himself. The other two came about $275 b/c I wanted the fancy box (hey they were free) that I had for the last two.

So sorry you are going thru this, I understand how you are feeling.

I have no idea how he got that job, but it came in handy! I think he mosty drove the van that picked up the animals b/c of his commercial driving license. It paid the bills at the time. He no longer does this.

We did that with my cat when she passed, but we were so distraught... she had died at home and we didn't know what to do, we had to bring her body to the vet's office, it was so horrible, I have no idea how much it cost.. we opted not to get the ashes back though...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We used Regency Forest as well and did the private ... I really have no idea how much it was because DH took care of it ... I was in no shape.

ETA: We received Hershey's ashes in a tall rectangular tin ... I made a small stained a small wooden box from Michaels and have a small glass container inside with a small amount of her ashes and part of the collar she wore at our wedding.

We buried some of her ashes out front with a plant a neighbor happened to leave for us on the same day we put her down Chat Icon
