Pet Insurance

Do you have it and which one do you have? Im looking into getting it for Kane but not sure which one, I think im gunna go with VPI. They seem like the best and cheap. For a $500 detucable its $27 a month. and that covers everything.

I guess im trying to find out if its worth it and do you think it really will be used. Dh said no dont get it, its all a waste of money and a scam, but im just thinking if god forbid something happens, i can afford to take care of my dog and help him.

I guess I just don't wanna feel like I wasted money if I never need it, but if someone happens and I can't afford it I'm gunna be kicking my self in the ass.

Let me know what you think and what you would do. Thanks

Re: Pet Insurance

I have trupanion for my dog. It is $36/month and they cover 90% of all costs for injury or illness after my $250 deductible. I think it is worth it. My friend's dog contracted gIardia and had to be hospitalized and the bill was Chat Icon They covered it no questions asked. You can adjust your monthly payment by increasing or decreasing your deductible.

The only thing with trupanion is you have to pay ur deductible every time you go. VPI is once a year. And with trupanion I'm gunn have to do he higher one. So that's what is holding me back from them.

I did not go with VIP because they have an annual cap that varies depending on the plan you choose. In the event that my dog needs major surgery and follow up care I want to know I am covered for it without having to worry about a plan maximum.

Hmmm that's good to know. This is all just so overwhelming. With trupanion is always a 90% payout?

Re: Pet Insurance

Worth it IMO. We have VPI for the cat and pets best for the dog. Never had a problem getting paid by VPI but they don't necessarily give you 80 percent of what you paid after deductible. It is 80 percent of what they feel is fair market value. So for example if your vet charges 30 for a test but they think that test is worth 20, you will see 16 back for it.

Re: Pet Insurance

Get it. They may need it just like you may need it.

I wish we got it for our dogs. We did the old.. it's a waste of money, blah blah blah. Thousands and Thousands later from 4 orthopedic surgeries I WISH we had it.

Re: Pet Insurance

We have two yorkies and never got the insurance ....do your research and get the ins....we just put our 3 yr old yorkie to sleep yesterday and are very heartbroken ...long story short she had a collapsed trachea and it got real bad she was gasping for air and barking like a goose honk for hours...brout her to my vet paid 200 bucks took her home two hours later my husband rushed her to the emergency vet paid 1000.00 ucks to keep her in oxygen tank and iv next morn told she needed x rays blood work and to be incubated she will need surgery that they only do in the city we would have to transport her for 500 bucks and there is no garuntee there could have been other things wrong as well everything would have come out to over 10 grand ...im not working we just had a baby and my dh business is not doing as well as it was...we had to put her down and are both emotional wrecks we can't go a half hour without balling n kick ourselves for not getting ins in the beginning when my vet said to .

Protect your fur babies like they are your kids ...i think if you own a dog it should be mandatory to get ins its crazy what these vets charge for things . My dh friends dog had to be put down because he had cancer and they couldn't afford the 8-12 grand for the chemo.

Re: Pet Insurance

Big rave on VPI here!
we had it since we got our kittens at 9 weeks old.
We have a decent plan- like the mid level one.
We recently had to take one cat to the vet for a UTI.
2 visits, blood and urine, meds etc
The bill was around $235 total- we submitted it and within a week or so they paid us $200!
I was shocked they paid out that much.
I was expecting to get less than half back.

Love them!
The piece of mind is excellent
