Pet Peeve: Baby talkers

I have this woman at work who does "baby talk" all the time.

Whenever she does something wrong she says "I sowwy" instead of "I'm sorry."

And she giggles and makes little baby voices when she's talking to Vice Presidents!!

It makes me insane. And she sits right outside of my office.

I mean, does she not understand how she comes across to people???

Re: Pet Peeve: Baby talkers

I do not know anyone who does this, but I think it is extrememely unprofessional to speak like that at work.
if you like the baby talk, leave it at home.

I won't even let my babies use baby talk. I CANNOT stand it.Chat Icon

Although... from time to time when my husband and I speak to each other we will pronounce words the way my son does because we find it funny, like "mungit" instead of "yogurt", or "fresents" instead of "presents", but we don't let the baby hear us so as not to reinforce the incorrect pronounciation.

Re: Pet Peeve: Baby talkers

Okay...she just saw me in the hall and asked how I was.

I said "Fine, just really busy!!"

She replied "Uh-oh, sounds like someone is CWANKY!!" then she put her hands on her hips and pouted.

Sounds like you work with a lady that I work with. Mind you, this lady is about 50 years old, and has a ton of other personal, emotional, and financial problems...can you say, "creditors call her practically every day".

I love it when she calls in sick.

I could go on and on and on...

Sounds just like her, except she's in her early 30s.

ALWAYS has drama going on.

She's the kind of person who you DREAD getting stuck in an elevator with.

HUGE pet peeve of mine. It makes no sense to me at all. I especially hate hearing this around children. I never speak baby talk around my daughter and when others do I correct them. i just don't get it. sorry... i don't.

Re: Pet Peeve: Baby talkers

It makes me nuts! As women, many of us know how difficult it can be and common it is to not be taken seriously simply because we are women. Those chosing to speak like babies or young children set us back 100 years every time they do it. Use the intelligence you were given and act as a professional. The baby talk is not cute, funny or even remotely acceptable and makes them appear far less intelligent that they really are.

Wow, can you tell it bothers me a bit? Chat Icon

ITA - my stepdaughter at 10 will still use baby talk - I tell her to stop - and I definitely do NOT want her talking to the baby that way!!!

I can NOT stand when grown women use baby talk - how nauseating!!!

Are you sh!ting me?? That is freakin hilarious!

Honestly, DH and I have gotten into a bad habit of baby talk with each other-- I actually caught it from him. I never spoke like that before. He is sometimes incapable of speaking normally to me-- it gets annoying sometimes actually. I would NEVER EVER speak like that outside of the privacy of my home.

Nor, would I ever say that I am cwanky.

Man, that's so funny.
