I had Lia from Imagine Studios take some shots of my daughter and Cosmo - if you go to parenting you can check out the pics she took. I also have my favorite one of the dog in my profile.
I know Doug from Patken has worked with doggie training schools so that is another option.

If you're looking for an inexpensive place, I know that the Picture People (in the Smithaven mall) do pet sessions. You just have to make your appointment in advance.

Fontana studios in Merrick does Pet Photography. They're great and they would come to you.
They do a beautiful job.
