Phone monitoring
My 11 year old started middle school and has an iPhone. I realized that I need to do a better job of monitoring it.
How do you monitor your kids’ phones? Do you have an app? Do you just go through it daily? Weekly?
Are there certain apps you block?

The iphone has "screentime" under settings. You can literally control their access to everything and anything from your phone with a pw. I love it.

Is the setting on the child's phone or does the adult manage from their phone?
Can you restrict certain aps and not others? For example, LIFE 360 and a medical ap called DEXCOM would need to always be on for my son.
My son is looking at his phone way too much. He needs to be near it for the medical monitoring ap- or I would just have him put his phone in a basket when he comes home as I did with my daughter.

I don't know much about that stuff but I will tell you my friend would look through her DD's phone every night. Her DD was not allowed to have Snapchat. Then, the cops showed one night because of something on her DD's Snapchat. Turns out, her DD was downloading it and deleting it everyday. She never thought to check the app store so if there is something you don't want her to have, make sure you check the app store too. These kids are very crafty!

Phone monitoring
I have an applock program on my daughter's phone. I have to input the code for her to get any apps. We are not apple users. Android. She has no social media. She had Tik Tok for like a month but was spending too much time on it so it got deleted. I randomly ask to see her phone to read her messages..she is a good girl, but, I'm still on top of her with the phone. She is 13.

I use screen time also and the power is wonderful lol  Anytime she doesnt listen I dont even have to ask her for the phone I just shut all the apps down. however the only thing that you can shut down is actually making phone calls but my DD seems to only thin you can call people using facetime  mind you she will be 10 in Jan. and really she only got the phone for when I drop her off at practice.
To answer the question you can have apps that are always allowed you just added it in the section.

screen time is great to put limits and block apps you dont want them to use all the time (really though they can access it for a minute but thats about it)
If you have them as a family member you can make them require to ask you permissions before they can download them.
My DD is not allowed to have snapchat, I did allow her to have a private Instagram account but I like it because i have it loaded on my phone and I actually end up getting all the notices of whoever messages her or like anything; she unfortunately cant see them first I dont know how to fix it. but i can keep both my account and her account and just switch back and forth when I want to see what's going on her account.
One thing I would love to find is an app that can actually monitor texts and anything they are really doing on the phone but I haven't found it yet. Yes i tell her she is not allowed to delete anything so i can check whenever I want and she listens for now but in the long run she can obviously do it and while I trust her she is a kid and kids will be kids!!
