Photography question

Those of you who are serious with photography, did you take a course at all, or were you self taught? I am taking up the hobby again after 10 years, so I am very rusty and I was just wondering if I should take a course or not.

I took several courses in college (I was an art history major and needed to take a certain amount of studio art credits for my major). Most of my experience was in printing my own photos and various things you can do when printing from your own slides. I would love to take more classes that focus on the actual art of taking the photo - but I did get a good portion of that in class as well - but after so many years I have lost some of it and need to refresh.

I'm pretty much self taught. I did take a class and I did get *something* out of it but not a heck of a lot. Most is trial and error - thankfully I have the greatest friends and the most patient ones who allow me to practice when I want to try some new things.

I do have a bunch of friends who are professional photographers - its their life (not that is not mine b/c it is but they have many more years of experience than myself) who have taught me a bunch of things as well.

If you go on Craigslist to the photography section some people there advertise lessons and photoshop help.

I bought a field guide for my camera. I plan on taking a class soon. Well, I would like to.

I am finding that I REALLY don't know squat about photography although my camera is "forgiving". I still miss great shots because I never read the manual.

So I am back to basic and ready my field guide.
