PI$$ED!!! Breast Pump related

So I have a friend who told me I could use her breast pump when i need it. She only used it a handful of times bc she switched over to formula. Well she told me that I can have it now she just told me that she is letting another friend use it for now but that I need it when my baby comes. I was going to just use all of her stuff and boil it. Shes like family so I was ok with this. Now I'm skeeved and dont even want to use the pump. What parts do I have to go out and buy now? She said just the cups and a bottle for it to go into. Dont I have to buy the tubes too? Is there anything else? I am so grossed out and i think more ****** so I might just go out and get my own. Would you ****** too or is it just me? What if for some reason I went into labor early and needed it now? Its wrong to tell someone they can have something then give it to someone else.

You just need to replace the parts - it's really not expensive at all. You can usually buy a set with everything.

You'll save a LOT of money by using a friend's pump instead of purchasing your own!

Im sure it would be a lot cheaper but I think I am just more ****** that shes gave it to someone. She told me I could come pick it up and I havent gotten there to get it. I wish I had then this wouldnt be an issue.

I can relate. It doesnt take much to gross me out.

Only my opinion, but I would just get my own to have peace of mind.

ETA: If you do decide to use it, a get replacement for everything you cant boil which the milk goes thru.

Re: PI$$ED!!! Breast Pump related

thanks. I added one to my registry. Lets hope its not too late at this point though. I know its getting close to my shower and all of the big stuff is gone so maybe someone will buy it for me. If not, I will be SUPER pi$$ed for having waited.

Have you checked with your insurance or even with Edge Park to see if you're covered for a breast pump?

I would try this route first too. I was happily surprised to find out that my insurance covered the Medela Freestyle 100%!

Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be mad unless we were both due around the same time and I couldn't use the pump when I needed it. Regardless of how close you are with your friend, you should still be getting replacement tubes, bottles, and valves for sanitary reasons anyway so I don't think you'll be buying anything more than you would have had to anyway, KWIM? BRU sells the replacement parts kit and you can get a set of replacement tubes by calling Medela directly. When I called, they sent me out a set for free. HTH!

I'm seriously not trying to Chat Icon , but I don't see why you're so upset about your friend lending HER pump to someone else before you need it. Like someone else mentioned, you're not due at the same time, and you'll still be using it when you need it it -- you'd most likely need to buy new pump parts anyway, right? Did I misunderstand?

My sister gave me hers when I needed one, I planned to give it to DH's cousin (due next week). Well, another friend needed it, so I gave it to her to use after her baby arrived as a premie back in June. I talked to DH's cousin about it, and she was very understanding and reminded me it was MY pump and I could do what I want with it...not my responsibility to make sure she has a pump, KWIM? Either way, both friend and cousin were understanding when I told them I'll need it back again in March when #3 arrives. JMO.

Re: PI$$ED!!! Breast Pump related

I agree with the above..I assume you are getting your own accessories anyway...so the pump itself never touches anyone's skin or milk..as long as you get it the day your LO is born, what diff does it make what your friend does with it between now and then!?!?!
