Pigeon Toed
Kerri seems to be walking with her toes pointed inward a bit. Does anyone have an idea on how I can correct this?

Re: Pigeon Toed
If you can get her into a ballet prgram, that will start to help. But make sure it's not a creative movement type class. They're fun, and there's nothing at all wrong with them, but you want something more structured to ballet so she learns to turn her toes out. And also let the teacher know so she can focus more on that.

Re: Pigeon Toed
Most toddlers are a little pigeon toed and it usually self corrects itself by the time they are 3 years old. I wouldnt worry about it at this point. It's got to do with positioning when they were in utero and b/c they have flat feet...
Some cases have to do with either twisting of the lower leg bones or the upper leg bones. You can check which one it is by looking at her while she's standing up. If her kneecaps are facing frontwards it's the lower leg bones and if her knee caps are pointing towards each other it's the upper leg bones..
I have a rotation of the upper leg bone which was never corrected. Im still pigeon toed....
As far as helping her is concerned just watch the way she sits while she is playing. Dont let her tuck her feet under her while she's sitting b/c this effects the torque in the lower leg bones...and know W-sitting..it effects the upper leg bones.

Re: Pigeon Toed
I was told most of the time it self corrects. My DD was very pigeon toed. Strangely it never affected her ability to walk or run, she was a fast runner early on too. I took her to a ped ortho and he said there was nothing to do until she is 5 or even 10 years old bc it takes that long to grow out of it sometimes. My DS has to to the ped ortho 2 weeks ago for something else and the ortho said he has some of the same but also said it self corrects 99% of the time. It's called tibial torsion. My DD has something else with her femur as well but again, hers cleared up. She's 4 now and you'd never know. However, those were the diagnoses by professionals on my individual kids based on xrays and seeing them. If you are that concerned, I'd take her to a ped ortho to be safe. HTH

Re: Pigeon Toed
Definitely ballet! I have a family history of legs turning in - I'd say beyond what can be described as pigeon toed - and I went to dancing school to correct it. It was like physcial therapy but fun!

I agree. I had this and my Mom put me in ballet which did help correct the problem. I'd have to find out for you how old I was though when she did this. I do know they were recommended by my pediatrician at the time.

Re: Pigeon Toed
A friend's DD is severely bow-legged. She has taken her to 2 pediatric orthopedic doctors and both said they won't look at her until she is 4 because most of the time it corrects itself.
I would imagine it would be the same thing for pigeon toe.
