They did an internal. She saw that my uterus was thickening, which is what she'd want to see, but couldn't see anything else - but she wasn't surprised by that at all and warned us (my husband was able to reschedule his afternoon to come with me) beforehand that she would be unlikely to see anything. I had blood drawn today and am going for a repeat on Wednesday, so she can see if my numbers are doubling.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'll be honest - because that's what I'd want. At 5w, they should be able to see the sac and likely the fetal pole as well. If they didn't see anything, unfortunately, I don't think it's going to have a positive outcome. Praying for you that I'm wrong, though. Hang in there.

That's what I thought, but the dr was really clear that it might be too early. Of course, it's always possible that I o'ed later or whatever. But the dark red blood certainly seems to indicate bad things, anyway.

Eta - but thanks - I appreciate the honesty. I'd rather have bluntness too.

Just out of curiosity, when she did the scan did she check your ovaries and tubes as well?
I ask because with my pregnancy before this one, I had cramping and bleeding (started as light pink and became darker within days) and it ended up being ectopic.

I don't think she did...we talked about the signs of ectopic but since I wasn't having any of them I don't think she looked.

i just called my drs office to see if it still made sense for me to come in tomorrow for the bloodwork and she said that some people can have a lot of blood and miscarry, or a lot of blood and be fine, or no blood and miscarry so i should still come in. and i know that is true in theory, but it's not helpful right now!

Yes, you should definitely go in tomorrow. If it is a m/c, they should still make sure your beta goes down to 0. And if it's ectopic, your beta would hover above, which would be one indicator.

So sorry you're going through this. After my first, I had a positive test. That whole week I continued testing bc I had a bunch of very expired wondfos and figured I'd use them up. After a few days they started getting lighter and right at 5 weeks it was super light and I started bleeding so I guess it was a chemical. I would go in tomorrow but maybe if you have a test in the meantime that would help get some insight.

yes go in. If it was an early m/c, make sure you get bloodwork until the levels drop to 0. I have had an ectopic, and the first level was like 7. They said i probably miscarried because of how low it was, but did one more round of bloodwork just to be sure. Sure enough, the levels rose to 12, then to 24, then to 5, and all over the place from there.. It can be a very serious thing if not caught.

praying that the blood is something unrelated, though, and that baby is fine...

I am so sorry this is happening to you. How are you doing now?

I had two early miscarriages at 4-5 weeks and unfortunately, this is how they happened for me.

I agree with taking more wondfo's and see if they are getting darker or lighter. I hope everything turns out ok for you.

Thanks everyone for checking in. Yesterday afternoon the cramping got really bad and I started (TMI alert) passing my mucus plug and large clots so my doctor had me come in for an appointment, which confirmed what we kinda already knew - I had a miscarriage. She said that there's no reason for it that she can tell and that once I get my next period we can start trying again. I'm just glad it's confirmed so I can start trying to move forward.

I had the same thing happen twice. I have since had a perfectly healthy ds and am pregnant again. So don't lose hope. I know it's hard going through it though.
