PIO vs Crinone
Does anyone know why a doctor would choose one over the other for progesterone support during 2WW? I just had my transfer on Saturday and I am being supported with Crinone. In the past, with my other doctor, I've always used PIO. I'm seeing Dr. Braverman and he told me you get the same support from both but the PIO is measurable in your blood and the other is not. So wouldn't that make it better??? I dunno....just feeling a little freaked out. Any info you could share about your own protocols would be helpful. Thanks.
PS - I have had low progesterone in the past so that is the real reason for my concern.

Re: PIO vs Crinone
usually you can do crinone if you use an HCG trigger because your body produces its own progesterone too. with lupron trigger it destroys the corpus luteum so theres no progesterone production from the body at all, so PIO is necessary to supplement all the progesterone until the placenta kicks in around 10-12 weeks.

Re: PIO vs Crinone
Wow!!! That was impressive! I wish Dr. B. would have explained it that way because that makes a lot of sense. He kind of left the ball in my court and said I could switch if it made me feel better. So I guess it should not really make a difference since I triggered with HCG. I did do a Lupron start though as a primer......Geez! I can just drive myself nuts!

Re: PIO vs Crinone
All I know is crinone never raised my blood levels of progesterone and I kept getting my period even before beta days. The two times I got pg I was on pio. I also had a chemical but was on crinone. The first time I got pg on pio I took 1cc and he upped it to 2cc bc my levels were still not optimal. I hjad a mc but for dif reasons. I am now almosty 15 weeks pg and was on 2ccs since the beginninhg. Just my opinion but I felt more confident on the shots. U can always ask him to test ur prog levels around 7dpo and make. Sure its above a 10. Gl!

Re: PIO vs Crinone
I don't like Crinone at all. I get more fake preggo symptoms on it and it seems to be less powerful in preventing AF from coming on. Whenever I stopped Crinone...AF was waiting to come within hours or a day. When I stop PIO..it takes 2 to 3 days for AF to come. IMHO..it's just not as effective as PIO but studies apparently say differently so many clinics choose to use Crinone. Bottom line however...if you are pregnant....AF will not come so I guess it does not matter.
