PLace to look up contractors license #'s to determine if there is an issue?

Does a web site like this exist?

I know there is Angie's List, but I don't want to pay to look up one contractor.

What county are you in? I'm in Suffolk & whenever we have work done I check the county website's Consumer Affairs Dept page HTH

Actually last night on fox 5 there was some landscaper on Shame Shame Shame from suffolk.

They basically said to check with the consumer affairs website to make sure everything is up to date and no issues with them. So I would look there.

For Suffolk they have a watch list of people with complaints or recently revoked licenses but they also have a disclaimer that says if you don't get a return on a search it doesn't mean they are not licensed. I was searching on someone using the company name and phone number I had (cell phone) and it showed nothing but I later found the info using the license number and it was under a home number and individual's name, not his company name so you really need to be searching for the correct info that the license is listed under.
