Placental Adhesions? UPDATE
So I spoke with one of the doctors, she called back around 1230.
She said it's tough to comment on it right now because they don't really know much. They see two things which COULD be SOMETHING. They're not sure if theyre related.
1. There is a band-like structure visualized near the placenta. As far as the tech could see, as of right now it is not making contact with the baby. As the baby gets bigger they worry about growth restriction/contriction.
2. There is a hypoechoic structure on the chorionic surface of the placenta. Could be a few things. Clot, cyst, small hemmorhage, etc.
So where we are now -- waiting game. Could go for our next US in three weeks and it could all be gone. Worst case, the band affects the baby -- then we're looking at Amniotic Band Syndrome. Could also very well be Circumvallate Placenta which is related to Amniotic Band Syndrome.
I will update as soon as we have more info. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!!
ALSO -- if you know me IRL please dont comment on FB. Most of my family and all of DHs family knows nothing of this. We dont want to burden anyone close unless we NEED to.
------------------------------------------------------
anyone have any experience with this?
Had my 12 week ultrasound and the baby looked great. The tech did, however, not a band-like structure on/in my placenta which "suggests adhesions". When I google this (i know i know, no good) all I come up with is Placenta Accreta which is kinda scary. Does anyone know anything about it?? I thought it would have to do with my previous c-section but the nurse said NO? they are bringing me in for another US at 16 weeks instead of only at 20 weeks.
any info is much appreciated!!

Re: Placental Adhesions?
I don't know where, but I am pretty sure I just read a post about this recently. I think that the placenta can adhere to the baby and stop development. I pray that this isn't the case.

Re: Placental Adhesions?
I'm sorry, I was referring to Amniotic Band Syndrome.. not sure if that is the same thing.

Re: Placental Adhesions?
its very hard to detect placenta accreta via sono at all, but especially that early in pregnancy. i had it, had about a dozen sonos over my pregnancy, and we didn't know i had it until my c-section. it was not detected on any sono. if you do have it you would need to have a c-section so that they can remove the placenta. i lost a lot of blood during my c-section due to this and it was a very rough surgery and recovery. but i doubt you would be able to detect it that early in pregnancy.
amniotic band syndrome is entirely different and can be a problem, however if it was a problem your doctor would most likely tell you by now. PennyCat unfortunately has experience with this so you may want to FM her, although her story is heartbreaking. however it doesn't sound like its amniotic band syndrome either unless its an extremely mild form.
good luck!!

Re: Placental Adhesions?
So from the little info I have (thus far) it looks like I may have Circumvallate Placenta. It's related to amniotic banding. DH and I are trying to stay optimistic until we know more. Next US to follow it is 9/1. I've read that lots of "banding" seen in EARLY ultrasound turns out to be benign. The fact that it may involve the placenta would male it worse.
Please just keep this little baby in your thoughts!!!

Re: Placental Adhesions?
No experience but I wanted to send you prayers!!! Doesn't your dr want to see you before the next sono to go over what the tech thinks they were seeing? What does the Dr tell you about all this?

Re: Placental Adhesions?
thanks everyone!
Im actually waiting for a call back from one of the doctors in the practice. There's about 8 and I've only met 2 so far - I'm new to the practice. I spoke with 2 nurses about it so far, that's it.
They just tried to reassure me that a lot of times this stuff can be benign and that this early on it can be tough to get a good diagnosis if it's NOT benign. If I dont get a call back by lunch I'm going to call again.
I think they need to wait until the baby and placenta are a little bigger to get a good grip on what's actually going on. This is why we have to wait until 16 weeks.
I will update as soon as I speak with a doctor!!

Re: Placental Adhesions? UPDATE
I have experience with Amniotic Band Syndrome I am this is not the case for your baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's extremely rare, and my baby also had a very severe case, making my situation even more rare!!
FM if you ever want any info, etc!!
ETA: Not sure if you are with one already, but you should see a perinatologist ASAP. I highly recommend doing that because they specialize in finding complications like ABS. When my son had it, it was diagnosed by my peri.
