Planning a trip to Italy - good websites?
We know where we want to go but need assistance in booking hotels and tours. What are some good websites to check out? TIA!

I usually start at yahoo travel and see what their top tourist attractions are then build from there.

Ditto! We went to Italy last year and used TripAdvisor to find all of our hotels and plan our things to do. I use it for every vacation. Each destination has several "destination experts" who either live in the area or frequently travel to it. They are so knowledgeable and give great tips!

Re: Planning a trip to Italy - good websites?
I looked at the itineraries for your groups for places to see and things to do to give me an idea of what we wanted to do. I looked on trip advisor for hotels and then called my travel agent and told her what I'd found. She gave me a yes or no on the places and did the booking for me

I used this company to book a cooking and walking tour in Tuscany in 2009...It was wonderful: http://www.girosole.com/italy-walking-tours/tuscany-cook-walk.html
This is the hotel we stayed at during the cooking and walking tour...It was AMAZING: http://www.villailparadisino.it/
I used booking.com to book the majority of my hotels.

Perrillo is pricey I think, but I have heard it is worth it.

Re: Planning a trip to Italy - good websites?
We went to Italy in October 2011, I can't believe we're back so long! We used trip advisor a lot. (Its huge over there, they have little stickers in restaurant and cafe windows). My husband did so much research on there it was unbelievable. We stayed in Rome, Florence and Venice. We found two hotels using tripadvisor and then used Liberty Travel for our Venice hotel. Not sure where you are planning on going but, I have to recommend the 8 hour wine tour we did. It was the highlight of our trip! http://www.winetourintuscany.com/. Also found on trip advisor. We also used DK eyewitness books, we found at the library, and italy apps from the app store.

Trip Advisor is great.
What cities are you going to? I can recommend a hotel in Florence and Venice

Crappy hotels far way from the sites. Long days on a bus. The meals they provided were horrible. The best meal we had was when we went out on our own. We could have done the whole thing cheaper on our own.
