planting herbs? parsley, basil, oregano and thyme

Should I plant these outside in my garden (which is being taken over by my raspberry bushes at the moment, so I am not sure how much sun they will get)...OR should I plant them in small pots and "display" them on the window ledge in the kitchen?

Mine have always done better directly in the ground, but if they will get more sunlight in a pot, that is probably more important

How much do you want to grow? Basil can grow to be pretty big. And you sort of have to plant a lot of parsley to have a reasonable amount for cooking use.

You can easily do rosemary and thyme in a window box but if you have the space, why not just plant in ground?

Mine get about 5 hours of sun a day and they do very well. If planted outside the oregano and rosemary should come back every year. Parsley is supposed to come back every other year, but I have yet to see it happen.

I have grown basil and oregano in pots in full sun and they grew very well. I just had to water extra because they were always in the sun.
