Re: play room

look up martha stewart's chalk board paint recipe. you can do it to any paint, it doesn't have to be black. we did ours in a pale green.

Re: play room

This isn't my house, but a pic I have saved for when we re-do our basement.

They have the chalk board on the upper walls.

Re: play room

I'm planning on doing a white-board wall, instead of the chalkboard. Eventually, the Wii, TV, and probably other electronics will be in there, and I really don't want that much chalk dust in the same room as the electronics.

Re: play room

chalk board :

Custom Colors How-To
Start with flat-finish latex paint in any shade. For small areas, such as a door panel, mix 1 cup at a time.

1. Pour 1 cup of paint into a container. Add 2 tablespoons of unsanded tile grout. Mix with a paint stirrer, carefully breaking up clumps.

2. Apply paint with a roller or a sponge paintbrush to a primed or painted surface. Work in small sections, going over the same spot several times to ensure full, even coverage. Let dry.

3. Smooth area with 150-grit sandpaper, and wipe off dust.

4. To condition: Rub the side of a piece of chalk over entire surface. Wipe away residue with a barely damp sponge.

It wouldn't be the entire wall. I haven't looked at them in a few months, but probably get a 4'x8' sheet or something. Maybe less. Just to give them a large area, but not an entire wall. If it's horizontal, they can't reach much higher than 4' anyway....

Why would they make the *upper* walls chalk board? Most kids can't reach up that high. Chat Icon

Re: play room

we have it in our kitchen, believe it or not. we have "L" shaped counters, where one would put bar stools, but we can't with the two kids, so it's that wall that we did in chalk board.

originally, they played with it ALL the time, but now, it's like once a week.

I also like the magnet paint idea too...

just some ideas.
