playdate etiquette

when your DC has a playdate do you help to clean up before you leave, like the toys and any food and stuff?

When I got home from work yesterday I was appalled at the disaster that was made after Roman's playdate. All of his toys were thrown around his room, his bedding was thrown all over, food was everywhere. DH didn't think it was a big deal, I guess because he figured I'd clean up everything as usualChat Icon

Would you go to someone's house and leave that mess?????Chat Icon

Depends on what the host says. Since I have a two year old it seems that most playdates end when someone's child is melting down. As a host, if someone's child has crashed I'd rather just let them go and clean in peace.

Re: playdate etiquette

We've always cleaned up before we left. I think it's better to teach rmy child to clean so I can have little slaves when they're older. If I stayed for the playdate, I make my child clean up before they go on to the next activity to minimize the damage.

Before the playdate ends or if I know the mom is coming at x time, I tell the kids to start cleaning up, get their shoes back on & try to wind down the playdate with a book. That way the mom can run in & out without having to spend 20 minutes cleaning & dealing with the tantrums of a child that is mid-play & doesn't want to leave.

I'm ok with the child leaving a wake of toys if there is a meltdown too.

I agree if there are any meltdowns then you take every situation as it comes. The parents were here the whole time (moms & dads) and from what DH told me they all had a great timeChat Icon

I try to keep food in a designated area. I don't like picking up chicken nugget pieces in my carpet.
I always clean up and put the toys away....regardless of a meltdown.
