Please, any suggestions??? Funeral is Friday w/no church or Minister?
Just found out that my DH's grandfather wasn't affiliated with a church so there isn't a church that will hold a funeral there or go to the cemetary for the burial because he wasn't affiliated with any!!! OMG I can't believe this. You live your whole life and then not get the proper burial. Is there anything we can do? I just cannot believe this! There has to be a church out there that will do this for our family. I'm sorry, this is just horrible. He lived in Bethpage/Plainedge area.

My grandfather’s funeral was held in a church in our town. He never went to church and was not registered. It's Christ of King in Commack on Kings Park rd. It's a ways for you but I've traveled far and wide for funerals so the location really shouldn’t matter. Maybe you could call them? That’s sad. The funeral home should be able to provide you with a contact for a minister to come during the wake and you could have them also come to the burial site and have them speak in the chapel there or at the grave.

Thanks everyone. I forgot to mention he's Baptist. I don't know how that works since I'm Catholic?

Can the funeral home help? Or maybe just have a blessing there then go straight to the cemetery?

If he was Baptist, you should be able to find a Baptist church that will consent to have the funeral at the church, or at least provide a minister at the funeral home of your choosing. God bless.

the local funeral home should have a list of clergy for unaffiliated people. ask them!

I'm not sure exactly why if it isn't held in a church it isn't considered a "proper burial"
My uncle died in 2000 and we just had the service AT the funeral home. The director actually came to my dad after and told him it was one of the most heart felt services he has ever seen.
We all gave readings and then did the burial at Calverton

My condolenscences to you and your family it is horrible to have added stress for your family at this time.
Check with the graveyard also. Many graveyards have clergy on staff and a little chapel.
The funeral home should definately help you out in your search.

I agree. You dont have to have a service at the church. A service at the funeral home is fine.

I think every funeral I have been to was at a funeral home. There are a ton in the area, I would start calling around.

the funeral home should help you with this.. my grandfather just died and they had his funeral mass at a RC church he wans't affiliated with... speak w/ the funeral director and they will help you.. also the methodist churches usually welcome anyone- maybe try them too?
