Please be careful of scams...especially if you're a writer.
I accepted a job posting that I found a few weeks ago. I always, always research Internet writing jobs...because you never know.
Anyway, I noticed that the person I was chatting with seemed to have slightly awkward grammar...which was weird for a writing job. However, I let it slide, but I didn't have a great feeling about it. The grammar errors were so small though, so I thought that perhaps she was not the editor herself.
I did some research and I found that the name, Martha Benson, was connected to the company, Educate America. All of these facts lined up since that was the name of the person and the company I was to write for.
Yesterday, I went to write the article, and I decided to do one more search just to verify everything. As it turns out, Educate America is a real company and Martha Benson did work for them, however...she passed away almost a year ago.
Basically what happens is the old Western Union scam...I'm not 100% sure how it works...but I know that somehow they wind up scamming you out of hundreds, even thousands, of dollars.
Never, ever respond to any job posting by Martha Benson. I also found out that this individual pulls the same scam with cars.
Please be careful!
