PLEASE do not text while driving!!
I see SO many people texting while driving. I'll admit I do use my phone from time to time, but ONLY when someone calls me.. so I really only have to open it up (and not look down to see where it is... if I can't reach it with my right hand, I'm NOT answering it.) Texting distracts people soooo much and it only takes a second for a deadly accident to happen.
Police now think the girl driving the car in this horrible crash might have been texting at the time of the accident...
This is sooo sad and may have been avoided.

Re: PLEASE do not text while driving!!
What a horrible story! I find it very hard to believe though that she was the one doing the actual texting - the article said the text messages were on her phone but that they would never know who was doing the texting (four other friends in car) - I can't imagine that even a 17 year old would be so stupid to be trying to text a conversation while driving in the dark. It seems more than likely to me that she was probably not paying attention and turning around and talking with her friends. The article also cited her inexperience as a driver - she only had a junior license as was NOT supposed to be driving when this accident happened - had she followed the law, they'd all be alive.

That is horrible. I don't even talk while driving. God forbid I get into an accident, I don't want to say "If only I hadn't been on the phone."

Re: PLEASE do not text while driving!!
texting can be done with one hand driving (not that i do it)
with kids and cell phones, they are so good at texting, they don't need to look at the screen when texting and can even hold a converstation while texting at the same time.
i'm still not sure why people need to be in touch with other people for the WHOLE 86400 seconds in 1 day...
i hardly use my cell phone and if i'm driving...bluetooh headset all the way

I so hope that one of her friends had been doing the text-ing to leave her hands clear for driving. People on their phones while driving drives me NUTS!
When I read this in People Magazine last week - the article also mentioned that she went into the oncoming traffic lane to pass another vehicle and after passing - moved back into her lane. For reasons unknown - she all of a sudden went back into the oncoming traffic lane and that's when her friends in the other car realized at the last moment a truck was about to hit them

That's true.. I don't need two hands to text, and I know where all the keys are to send messages, but I still wouldn't do it while driving. I once saw a girl driving through a parking lot (almost hit me) and she was on her cell AND eating Chinese food ... WITH CHOPSTICKS!!!!!!!!!! People are always soo rushed and feel the need to do a million things at once.. and it's not possible!

Re: PLEASE do not text while driving!!
if my phone rings while I'm driving and I don't have my headset on, 9 times out of 10 I won't answer it. I'll put on my headset and call the person right back.
