**PLEASE Don't Move This Post** I know This Is a Long Shot, But I Can Use Any Little Bit of Help Possible, re: Looking For a Teaching Job(sorry SO long)
I thought maybe, just maybe someone can help here!
I am an Elementary School Teacher who lives in Eastern Suffolk County but teaches for The NYC Public Schools in Jackson Heights, Queens. After dedicating myself for 11 years to the children and parents of my school my horrendous principal has decided to excess me BECAUSE I am Monolingual and she's been overheard saying that before she retires she wants to make her school all Bilingual meaning ALL Teachers have to be Bilingual certified to teach there. Is ths fair, of course not, it's discrimination and I am fighting it with my union but in the meantime after being in the same school my whole teaching career I am left heartbroken and in excess and need to TRY and find another city school who needs/wants my expertise. Excessing means I still get my salary and benefits but sit in a pool of 1500-2000 teachers who cannot find a position and wait for the HR Department to POSSIBLY contact me for an interview and in turn it could be in an awful place. The good thing is I don't have to accept anything I don't want to.
I've already had several of my parents contact me and e-mail me tear jerker type letters how devestated they are, that I'm their favorite teacher in the school and even though they are Hispanic themselves they are totally at a loss of how my principal can get away with this. They want to try to help but there is probably little they can really do. In the city Principals have ALL the say.
In any event, IF ANYONE HAS ANY CONNECTIONS, KNOWS OF SOMEONE WHO IS AN ADMINISTRATOR IN QUEENS, PREFERABLY DISTRICT 25 OR 26 WHICH IS THE FLUSHING, BAYSIDE, WHITESTONE, LITTLENECK, DOUGLASTON AREA AND CAN GET ME IN TOUCH WITH THEM PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
I already travel 2 hours each way to my job and cannot go too deep into Queens.
If you got this far reading this I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you, Keri

Funny, of course I have to work. You are sent to a school and "sit" there until the HR Dept lines up interviews for you. "Sitting" there basically means they will use you as their SUB, etc....

I thought you could only be excesses based on time, not principal's whim...read the contract, but this sounds wrong and I am so sorry!

Apparently not the case. She has made only ONE Monolingual class on each grade for next year and even with my 11 years, the several other Monolingual Teachers that are in my school have more than my 11 years so they got to stay. 90% of the staff is Hispanic and are her "friends".
PS. There are a few NEW Teachers and I have 11 years and they get to stay

BOE has bldg senority, if I remember correctly. SO she cannot keep someone who has less time in.
Actually building senority REALLY means nothing. It means something if lets says someone with less building senority got a cluster position or if there was a CTT class and you didn't want it and you got it where as someone with less senority in your building didn't get. In this case, she is giving a HOOT about building senority. Her fight is its about the license and she rearranged (and probably fraudently) test scores, etc to say she nees MORE Bilingual Teachers and LESS Monolingual:) Its disgusting!
Thank you though:)

Yep, building seniority is tied to license- when my school restructured in 2004, I got to stay because I had an English license and was the second most senior ELA teacher with 8 years. There were so many common branch teachers (it was a middle school that was made 1/3 the size) that teachers who had up to 10 years more than me were excessed because so many more teachers had that license and we suddenly needed only a few.
