It means they're taking a break. For me it also meant:
1. I wasn't sure about the person & needed to evaluate.
2. We talking more about the relationship than we were enjoying the relationship.

the guy I was seeing- known him for a long time we dated we were friends we dated... it was getting to the point that we were getting on each others nerves and letting other personal issues in our life affect our relationship- we both werent ourselves for our own reasons....
so we decided to take some space and get back to being ourselves because we both werent ....i guess taking space is an easier way of saying broke up...
i guess i just miss him..

interpretation left to the individual...and there is lots of room for that

When we were dating, DH and I took a break for about three months. We were both going through some major life changes.
It was definitely a good thing. When we got back together - I appreciated him and what we have so much more.

It can definitley be a good thing. it should just be a time go focus on you and re-evaluate what you want from a relationship and from your own life.

I see it as time apart from each other, but in the overall sense, I do think it's possible it can work again after time.

To me, it would mean that they are taking some time apart so that they each have time to evaluate their relationship and decide where they want things to go. It may either be b/c things are going too fast or things are confusing at the time.

Sometimes space is a good thing. Both of you can work through your personal things (and not take them out on each other and possibly ruin the relationship forever) and then can come back together.
