PLEASE HELP - I am in a panic - DS was just sucking on a pencil!

Ok,don't ask how it happened, i feel like the worst mommy in the world right now But, my DS (6.5 mos) got a pencil in his mouth - it was one of those plastic automatic type pencils with only the little tip part that you wind and it comes out more and more - He was sucking on the whole tip of the pencil which was a DIRTY pencil - It doesn't appear that any of the lead broke off in his mouth but it is possible - if so, only a tiny bit.

My DH seems to think this is perfectly fine but I think we should call the ped? What do you think???? I think that it isn't real lead in lead pencils but still

Pencils no longer contain lead but I'd call the ped just for peace of mind

Odds are that it is graphite. I dont think they have used lead in pencils for a long time. You could look up the pencil if you know the brand through an office website or call poison control if it makes you feel better.

Don't panic, just call your ped. I'm sure he will be fine.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the pediatrician. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about. But you have to be comfortable and if you aren't unless you speak to the doctor, call.
