Please help - Q for teachers from a Mom
One of the teachers at my kids' school died tragically over the holiday break. The entire school is devastated. I know my DS's teacher was very good friends with her and I cannot imagine how hard it is for her to do some of the exercises that the grief counsellors have suggested and answer questions from a class full of confused 7 & 8 year olds. I wanted to send her a condolence note or something...would that be inappropriate or weird? I don't know his teacher really well but I have met her and been in her company a few times separate of the parent teacher meeting and like I said, I just feel so bad...
TIA

I think that would be a REALLY nice thing to do. I know I would really appreciate it if the parents of one of my students would think of me at a time like that. I can't imagine she wouldn't feel the same way.

Agreed.
When you lose someone you care about, any act of kindness is much appreciated.
When I lost my mom, in addition to hearing from my friends and family, I got some cards and letters from students I didn't know too well (I teach HS) and colleagues I had only met a few times that were so touching, they made me cry (not in a bad way). I've even kept them to look at when I miss her and feel down.

Agreed, it would be very thoughtful of you. A teacher at my school, who I was friends with, died last year. It was a very hard time and a few parents said something to me. I definitely appreciated it.

I agree that it would be a nice gesture, and that your son's teacher would appreciate knowing that a parent of one of her students is thinking about her during this time and showing support.

Re: Please help - Q for teachers from a Mom
How horrible! When I was in 6th grade, my teacher died in a car accident suddenly and it took us all by surprise. I never even thought about how the teachers dealt with it!
I think it would be an incredible gesture if you sent a note in. As a teacher, that would mean a lot to me to know that the parents care about me as a person, and not just as their child's teacher.
I think it's a great idea!
