Please help...
As of tomorrow i am going out on childcare leave until Jan. Does anyone know if before the child care leave, can i take the FMLA?
i would like to keep my benefits for a little while longer while my babies are getting a lot of services under my ins.
We will get ins. under my DH but if possible i would like to do FMLA then do the childcare leave for the other month?
any quick advice? ETA: i am nyc teacher

I believe FMLA is 12 weeks from the date of birth.

Re: Please help...
THanks for the replies. my payroll secretary thought i would be able to borrow20 days then go on FMLA. It turns out that i can't. So, i can take fmla but that only brings me to nov. 26 and i don't want to do that b/c my babies just came home after being in the hospital for over 3mos.
So today when we talked we figured out that i could take a leave of absence unitl about Jan. but she never said anything about FMLA. Before i asked her i wanted to know more this way i didn't sound like an idiot.
when i called her back to ask when my ins. would stop she said the tomorrow the 30th so now i am flipping. i know the paper work is not in yet but my son has app'ts tomorrow and we aren't on my husbands yet.
Can you tell i am freaking out?! We also have nursing care that i need to figure out...shoot me!

Re: Please help...
Are you a teacher in NYC? I encourage you to talk to our union rep. You need to make sure you are getting all the time you are allowed and using it to your best advantage. You can definitely use FMLA up to 12 weeks at any time during the first year of your child's birth.
